  • Publication number: 20070121078
Abstract: A light-valve system adapted to recycle light reflected from the light-valve in order to improve the brightness of the image. Illustratively, this reflected light is the dark-state light of an image. The system includes a light-valve, which is optically coupled to a polarization discriminator; and a light recycling device, which selectively alters the polarization state of light reflected by the polarization discriminator back into the system, wherein the reflected light is transmitted to an imaging surface increasing the brightness of an image.

  • Publication number: 20070085789
Abstract: A color display system and a method of displaying an image uses at least four primary colors, where one of the primary colors can achieve substantially greater brightness levels than the closest of the three other primary colors. Where six primary colors are used, color saturation requirements and brightness requirements for the display system can be effectively separated between different primary color elements. Therefore, there is no longer such a severe requirement to use only materials that can simultaneously provide high color saturation and brightness. Accordingly, a color display system, with two sets of three primary colors can utilize a wider range of materials, and simultaneously achieve higher color saturation and brightness levels.

  • Publication number: 20070076014
Abstract: A decoder and method of decoding converts color image data into a format for display by a display having N primary colors, where N>3. Each of a plurality of input format converters converts an input signal having a corresponding color format to a set of X, Y, Z tristimulus values, and outputs the set of X, Y, Z tristimulus values. An input selector selects a selected set of X, Y, Z tristimulus values form one of the outputs of the input format converters, or a dedicated X, Y, Z input. An output converter converts the selected set of X, Y, Z tristimulus values into N color image pixel data corresponding to the N primary colors.
