  • Patent number: 7146394
Abstract: An improved method and arrangement for detecting a watermark in an information (e.g. image or video) signal are disclosed. The detection is more reliable and less vulnerable to image processing by partitioning the image into a sequence of blocks having a predetermined size, accumulating the blocks, computing a value indicative of the correlation of the accumulated blocks and the watermark having the predetermined size, and detecting whether the correlation value is larger than a predetermined threshold.

  • Patent number: 6718117
Abstract: A video tape recorder is operated with multiple tracks that are physically in parallel to each other and are collectively accessible as a single logical track, through selectively displaying in parallel a plurality of video keyframes. Actual play is controlled through selectively accessing a particular displayed keyframe. In particular, various ones of the displayed keyframes are associated with a value-based display of an analog quantity to indicate an anticipated time lapse that will be necessary before actual play as pertaining to the associated keyframe may effectively start.

  • Patent number: 6614989
Abstract: A method is disclosed for compressing an HDTV signal (1) in such a manner that it can be recorded and edited with SDTV equipment (4,5). More particularly, the HDTV signal is recorded on digital recorders (e.g. DVCPRO) which have been designed for recording compressed SDTV signals. A sub-sampled version of the HDTV signal is recorded in first locations (20) of compressed macroblocks in a manner complying with the relevant SDTV recording format. The HDTV signal is compressed (2) and formatted (3) for being recorded in further locations (21). Between said first and further locations, an end-of-block code (28) is recorded so that the recorder (4) will ignore the HDTV data. Upon playback, a recognizable version of the sub-sampled HDTV signal is displayed on an SDTV receiver (5). Readily available SDTV equipment can thus be used for HDTV editing. In one embodiment of the invention, the sub-sampled HDTV signal consists of selected DC coefficients.

  • Publication number: 20030086587
Abstract: An improved method and arrangement for detecting a watermark in an information (e.g. image or video) signal are disclosed. The detection is more reliable and less vulnerable to image processing by subjecting the suspect image (q) and the watermark to be detected (w) to Symmetrical Phase Only Matched Filtering (24-28,16) prior to detecting (29) the amount of correlation (d) between said signals.

  • Patent number: 6078448
Abstract: An apparatus for recording a digital information signal and a subcode signal in slant tracks (FIG. 1) on a record carrier (140), includes an input (111) for receiving the digital information signal and an input (123) for receiving the subcode signal. Portions of information of the subcode signal are accommodated into subcode signal blocks (FIG. 2) and portions of information of the information signal are accommodated into information signal blocks (main sync blocks, FIG. 1). The subcode signal blocks and the information signal blocks are combined into a composite signal for recording the tracks on the record carrier. Time code signals are generated and accommodated in specific subcode signal blocks in the subcode signal recording portion having sequence numbers that satisfy the following formula:N(i)={N(i-1)+1+2.multidot.p}mod2.sup.m,where p is an integer positive constant for which holds 0.ltoreq.p.ltoreq.2.sup.

  • Patent number: 5854810
Abstract: A transmitter apparatus for transmitting a digital data signal via a transmission medium (10) includes an error protection encoder (3) for carrying out an error protection encoding on the digital data signal so as to obtain an error protection encoded digital data signal, and a channel encoder (6) for converting the error protection encoded digital data signal processed into a channel encoded digital data signal. The channel encoded digital data signal is supplied to the transmission medium. The error protection encoder (3) is adapted to carry out an error protection encoding step on packets of p m-bit digital words in the digital data signal, and for supplying error protection encoded packets (Q) of n m-bit digital words to an output, where n, m and p are integers larger than 1, and n>p.

  • Patent number: 5757808
Abstract: A method and device for use with helical scan data recording by implementing a Reed-Solomon product code, a unitary medium comprising such data, and a cassette comprising such medium.Error protective data encoding for use with rotary head helical scan tape-recording is done by providing a first word-wise Reed-Solomon code along each recording track defined in first code words, and a second Reed-Solomon code defined in second code words. The first and second Reed-Solomon codes together form a product code format. Each second codeword has a sequence of symbols across a plurality of contiguous tracks. The symbols of a single second codeword have substantially uniform displacements between contiguous symbols both in a direction parallel to a length of the tape, and also in a direction perpendicular to a length of the tape. Each second codeword extends substantially along a length of the tracks associated to the recording.

  • Patent number: 5671236
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for transmitting and receiving a digital data signal. At the transmitter side, packets of p m-bit digital words in a digital signal are error protection encoded to produce error protection encoded packets of n m-bit digital words making up an error protection signal, where n>p. The error protection encoded packets are converted into converted packets of digital words to form a channel encoded signal, which signal is supplied to a transmission medium. The conversion involves use of a generator for supplying a fixed auxiliary packet of n digital words; a calculation unit for calculating in a Galois field GF(2.sup.m) a converted digital word in accordance with the formula DW.sub.i +.alpha..FW.sub.i, where DW.sub.i and FW.sub.i are the binary values corresponding to the i-th digital words in the packet to be converted and the auxiliary packet, respectively, .alpha.

  • Patent number: 5659556
Abstract: A device for processing digital data comprises a memory, error detection means and control means which selects addresses for the writing of the data in the memory on the basis of errors detected in the data, and which selects further addresses for the reading of data from the memory. Thus, only reliable data is read so that a high picture quality is achieved in a digital video system, despite the presence of errors in the data.
