  • Publication number: 20160061134
Abstract: An engine control system including an engine configured to generate exhaust comprising an exhaust constituent and to operate in a first operating mode or a second operating mode different from the first operating mode. The engine control system can include a plurality of sensors configured to generate temperature data corresponding to at least one of a measured exhaust temperature and an ambient temperature, and exhaust constituent data corresponding to an exhaust constituent concentration. The engine control system can include a controller operatively coupled to the plurality of sensors and the engine, and configured to receive the temperature data and the exhaust constituent data from the plurality of sensors, and change an operating state of the engine from the first operating mode to the second operating mode when the temperature data is less than a predetermined temperature threshold and the exhaust constituent data is greater than a predetermined exhaust constituent threshold.

  • Patent number: 8121774
Abstract: An exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system for an engine and a method of operating that system is disclosed. The system has a conduit arrangement for conducting exhaust gas from an exhaust side of the engine to an intake side of the engine, a valve arrangement configured for controlling the amount of exhaust gas to be recirculated and a conduit arrangement for providing intake air to the intake side of the engine. A sensor arrangement is provided and is configured to sense at least one parameter indicative of the humidity of the recirculated exhaust gas and the intake air at the intake side of the engine. A control arrangement is configured to receive a signal from the first sensor arrangement and further is configured to control the valve arrangement in response to a determination by the control arrangement that the first parameter is outside a desired range for low-NOx emission during a subsequent combustion period.
