Publication number: 20170374549Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a pre-5th-Generation (5G) or 5G communication system to be provided for supporting higher data rates Beyond 4th-Generation (4G) communication system such as Long Term Evolution (LTE). The various embodiments of the present invention disclose a method of secured transmission and reception of discovery message in device to device (D2D) communication system. According to one embodiment, a transmitting user equipment (UE) receives a ProSe group key (PGK) from a Prose function to perform a D2D communication in a D2D public safety group. The transmitting UE then derives a ProSe traffic key (PTK) using the PGK for transmitting data packets in the D2D communication. Using the PTK, the transmitting UE further derives a Prose integrity protection key (PIK) for securing a discovery message to discover one or more receiving UEs. The transmitting UE transmits the integrity protected discovery message using the derived PIK to the receiving UE.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 18, 2016Publication date: December 28, 2017Inventors: Agiwal ANIL, Rajavelsamy RAJADURAI, Youngbin CHANG

Patent number: 9497169Abstract: A method and system for providing selective protection of data exchanged between user equipment (UE) and network is disclosed. The selective protection is applied to a packet, a bearer or an access point name for secure exchange of data between the UE and the network. The network decides to apply selective protection based on configuration of network, configuration of UE, load in the network, battery power availability of UE, type of application running on UE. Further, the UE can request for selective protection based on the type of application running on UE and the battery level availability of the UE. The selective protection is either enabled or disabled dynamically by the network. Further, various mechanisms for applying selective protection for each bearer, each packet and each Access Point Name (APN) are disclosed. Additionally, the method for identifying a secured and a non secured bearer has also been disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2013Date of Patent: November 15, 2016Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Sudhir Kumar Baghel, Agiwal Anil, Rajavelsamy Rajadurai

Patent number: 8249035Abstract: Disclosed herein is a technique for enhanced parameter negotiation in Evolution-Data Optimized (EVDO) communication systems that use Generic Configuration Protocol to negotiate session parameters or session attributes. The technique reduces the number of parameter negotiation cycles involved during the session configuration process. A new AlternateValueAllowed field is added in the attribute record. The Configuration Request message sent by the initiator allows the Configuration Response message responder to send the responder's preferred attribute value to the initiator, when the Configuration Request message does not contain the preferred attribute value of the responder. Such a modified attribute record structure obviates the need for multiple attribute negotiation cycles, and therefore saves session negotiation time.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2007Date of Patent: August 21, 2012Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., LtdInventors: Satya Venkata Uma Kishore Godavarti, Tirumala Sree Hari Vara Prasad Vadlapudi, Agiwal Anil

Patent number: 8045521Abstract: Interworking in a multi-protocol revision based Evolution Data Only/Evolution Data Optimized (EVDO) communication system is described. In this scheme, an access terminal (AT) and an access network (AN) perform session configuration in multi-protocol scenarios. The AT maintains a set indicating all the protocol revisions it supports. The AT and AN start their session negotiation with the subtypes corresponding to the highest protocol revision supported by AT and AN. There are two scenarios in which AT sends the Unicast Access Terminal Identifier (UATI) request message with protocol revisions: power up and idle handoff.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2007Date of Patent: October 25, 2011Assignee: Samsung Electronics Co., LtdInventors: Satya Venkata Uma Kishore Godavarti, Tirumala Sree Hari Vara Prasad Vadlapudi, Agiwal Anil
