  • Patent number: 6452064
Abstract: A method of manufacturing a fluid permeable covering sheet (9) for an absorbent article such as a diaper, a sanitary napkin, an incontinence protector or the like, wherein heated needles (4) are brought to penetrate a sheet of textile material (1) comprising at least one thermoplastic component, whereby the thermoplastic component closest to the needles (4) melts, whereafter the needles (4) are removed and the heated material (1) is passed through at least one nip of rollers (7) so that the thermoplastic component closest around the apertures is smoothed out into a substantially smooth material surface around the apertures, whereafter the thermoplastic component is brought to solidify. The invention further pertains to an apertured covering sheet (201, 301) for an absorbent article manufactured in accordance with the method, and an absorbent article (300) provided with a covering sheet manufactured in accordance with the method.

  • Patent number: 5391162
Abstract: An absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin or a guard for mildly incontinent persons, comprising an elongated absorbent pad (3) enclosed between a liquid-permeable casing sheet (1) facing the wearer in use of the article and a liquid-impermeable casing sheet (2). At least one of the casing sheets extends laterally beyond the absorbent pad forming an outwardly projecting, longitudinally extending edge. Flexible side-flaps (5, 6) are arranged at the long side edges of the absorbent pad (3) and are intended, when the article is used, to be folded around the edges of the wearer's underpants or like garment (9) in the crotch part thereof and attached to the outside of the underpants. Uplifted liquid barrier devices (10, 11) are provided on that side of the article which faces the wearer in use on both sides of the absorbent pad (3) along at least parts of the long side edges thereof between the absorbent pad and the flexible side-flaps.

  • Patent number: 5129893
Abstract: The present invention relates to a sanitary napkin consisting of an absorbent core (1) surrounded by a casing built up of two surface layers which are joined together around the absorbent core and of which surface layers the one facing the wearer's body is liquid permeable whereas the other one (2) is liquid impermeable.According to the invention, elastic means (5,6) are applied to the liquid impermeable surface layer (2). The resiliency afforded to the sanitary napkin in this manner will urge the napkin in its applied condition to press against the outer genitals of the wearer.
