  • Patent number: 7094478
Abstract: A vibration damping laminate includes a magnetic layer and an uncoated constraining layer joined by a viscoelastic layer, wherein the modulus of elasticity of the viscoelastic layer is substantially less than that of either of the other two layers. The laminate is magnetically attached to an associated source of vibrations by the magnetic layer, and substantially all vibrational damping is effected by the viscoelastic layer.

  • Patent number: 6203454
Abstract: A multi-mode vibration absorbing device for implements includes a base member and a mass mounted to the base member and cantilevered relative thereto. The multi-mode vibration absorbing device is tuned such that it vibrates at the same frequency as the implement but out of phase therewith.

  • Patent number: 6033324
Abstract: A vibration damping device for stringed racquets includes a viscoelastic member adapted to be wrapped around at least a pair of strings of the racquet and a moveable member extending through the viscoelastic member moveable relative to the viscoelastic member in response to vibrations induced by an impact on the strings of the racquet such that the vibration damping device vibrates over the same frequency range but out of phase with the racquet to damp vibrations in the racquet.

  • Patent number: 5655975
Abstract: A golf club having a vibration damping device including a club head, a shaft connected to the club head having resonant frequencies over a predetermined range and a rod disposed within the shaft with a viscoelastic material interposed between the shaft and the rod. The rod is flexible and has resonant frequencies over the same frequency range as the shaft such that the shaft and rod vibrate out of phase with respect to each other and thereby deform the viscoelastic material to damp vibrations in the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5651545
Abstract: A vibration damping device for stringed racquets including a viscoelastic member adapted to be mounted between strings of the racquet and at least one movable member carried on the viscoelastic member. The movable member is movable relative to the viscoelastic member in response to vibrations induced by an impact on the strings of the racquet such that the vibration damping device vibrates over the same frequency range but out of phase with the racquet to dampen vibrations in the racquet.

  • Patent number: 5020978
Abstract: Noise of a vehicular fuel pump is reduced by determining the major frequency range of the objectionable noise and the deformation patterns of vibrating elements of the pump, and providing a passive vibrator which has designed mass, stiffness and damping values that cause it to resonate in the major frequency range and to provide an out-of-phase reaction force which is of sufficient magnitude to offset the undesired vibration. The passive vibrator may be mounted on the pressure or return line of the pump.

  • Patent number: 4741945
Abstract: The acoustical performance of automotive trim panels is improved, especially with respect to noise generated by structural vibration of an automobile and synchronous vibration of the trim panel itself, by positioning a dead, vibration-damping, foam material between the automobile frame and a semi-flexible support layer of the trim panel, the trim panel also including an open-celled, flexible, airborne sound-absorbing foam layer bonded to the opposing face of the support layer, and wherein the dead foam material has a substantially lower resilience value and a substantially higher recovery rate than the open-celled foam layer.
