  • Patent number: 11131598
Abstract: A balance protection system for a wind tunnel test system that includes a balance component, a model component connected to the balance component and a sting component connected to the balance component is disclosed. The balance protection system includes a first set of features on the model component that mate with a second of features on to the sting component. The clearances between the first and second set of features determine an amount of allowed movement of the model with respect to the balance. Actuators can be used to actively adjust the amount of clearance and respective allowed movement of the model with respect to the balance. Limiting movement of the model with respect to the balance protects the balance from damage caused by excessive forces applied to the model.

  • Patent number: 10316051
Abstract: A process for stabilizing lignin fibers, stabilized lignin fibers made by the process and carbonized fibers made from stabilized lignin fibers. The process includes heating lignin fibers to a temperature ranging from about 100° to about 220° C. while the fibers are in an atmosphere of air and HCl gas, generated as air is bubbled through concentrated hydrochloric acid for a period of time sufficient to stabilize the lignin fibers.

  • Publication number: 20150265805
Abstract: A guide catheter has an inlet orifice that allows blood to enter an interior passage of the catheter. A valve is positioned next to the inlet orifice that selectively opens and closes the inlet orifice. The catheter includes a dye passage that transports dye from a proximal end of the catheter to a dye outlet orifice. The dye passage may be formed in a unitary tubular member, a partitioned tubular member or in the clearances of a double-walled catheter. A valve may also be positioned next to the dye outlet orifices that selectively opens and closes the orifices. The valves are preferably kidney-shaped expandable bladders or pressure valves. A capillary tube connected to the expandable bladder functions to inflate and deflate the expandable bladder. The expandable bladders and capillary tubes are incorporated into the wall of the catheter.

  • Patent number: 8206640
Abstract: A process and apparatus for collecting continuous fibers or filaments as a uniform batt comprises a filament emitter in the form of a spinning die, a venturi, a diffuser, and a fiber collection bed. The filaments move downward after being created by the emitter, and exhaust ports create in the diffuser an airflow having a direction against the flow of the filaments so that the filaments are decelerated before contacting the fiber collection bed.

  • Patent number: 7249614
Abstract: A structure for reducing turbulence and increasing flow uniformity in a flowing fluid in a wind tunnel, or a fluid channel, has a plurality of conduits or channels arranged into a conduit bundle. The conduit bundle has a number of parallel conduits with plurality of perforations on the inner side walls of the conduit. As the fluid flows through the conduit bundle the sides of the conduits reduce lateral turbulence while the perforations minimize pressure gradients in the flowing fluid in adjacent conduits, resulting in isotropic turbulence. The invention is particularly useful in testing aircraft, improving engine performance, and fluid mechanics applications.

  • Patent number: 6729983
Abstract: An improved design for a tubular aluminum ball bat or light sports implement is provided. The bat includes a handle portion, a barrel portion having a circumferential outer wall, and a transition portion joining the handle portion and the barrel portion. A structural bridge is located within the bat and is attached to and spans the circumferential outer wall. The structural bridge modifies the vibrational response of the bat so as to increase the size of the sweet spot of the bat and provide more effective energy transfer from the bat to a ball upon striking the ball with the bat.

  • Publication number: 20020117224
Abstract: A honeycomb type bundle of conduits are of various construction to provide a multitude of uses. The primary function of the honeycomb type bundle is to alter the flow path of fluid and produce Uniform flow, uniform turbulence and reduced noise. Because of the unique construction, the bundle has other unexpected uses.
