  • Publication number: 20210062602
Abstract: A cellar around a wellbore is formed or deepened with an excavating system that is capable of being assembled around an existing wellbore. The system includes an excavating unit having an annular body with a cutting surface that excavates cuttings from ground around the wellbore. The cuttings are directed up through a slot in the body, and are collected inside a receptacle set in a recess of the body. An opening is formed in a side of the receptacle when in the body, and through which the cuttings pass from the slot into the receptacle. The receptacle is removable from within the recess and cuttings collected within are emptied. When the receptacle is removed from the recess, the opening is automatically covered to retain the cuttings inside the receptacle. Another cellar around a different wellbore is formed by disassembling the excavating system and relocating it to the different wellbore.

  • Publication number: 20210054716
Abstract: A method of plugging a formation fracture includes drilling, with a drill string configured to flow drilling fluid, a wellbore, where, at a downhole location, the drilling fluid is lost through a formation fracture. The method also includes deploying, through the drill string, a plugging assembly to the downhole location of the wellbore. The plugging assembly includes a flexible fiber sheet releasably coupled to a pumpable dart such that when the plugging assembly reaches the downhole location, the flexible fiber sheet is released from the dart to flow, with the drilling fluid, to the formation fracture to at least partially overlay the formation fracture. The method also includes adding, to the drilling fluid, lost circulation material configured to accumulate on a portion of the flexible fiber sheet to at least partially fluidically plug the formation fracture.

Abstract: An apparatus includes a housing, engagement slips, a tubular, a taper tap, a pin, and a slip activation member. The housing includes a profile that defines a path including a first end and a second end. The engagement slips are attached to the housing. The tubular passes through an opening of the housing. The taper tap is rotatable and connected to the housing. The pin is connected to the tubular and received by the profile of the housing. The tubular is translatable with respect to the housing based on the pin translating along the path defined by the profile. The slip activation member is connected to the tubular. The slip activation member is configured to move each of the engagement slips radially outward with respect to the housing when the pin translates to the second end of the path.

  • Publication number: 20210054708
Abstract: A sidetrack window is cut in a cased wellbore by disposing a sidetracking assembly within the cased wellbore. A first ball is deployed into a drill string of the sidetracking assembly. The first ball leaves the drill string and lands on a ball seat of a cement retainer to block fluid outlet of the cement retainer. Then, the cement retainer is set and a second fluid outlet of the cement retainer is exposed. Cement is flowed through the drill string to the portion of the cased wellbore downstream of the cement retainer to plug the portion of the wellbore. The whipstock assembly is separated from the cement retainer. A second ball is deployed inside the drill string to land on the seat of the whipstock assembly to block a fluid outlet of the whipstock assembly. The whipstock assembly is anchored in the cased wellbore and the milling system is actuated to begin cutting the sidetrack window.

  • Publication number: 20210002979
Abstract: A subsurface safety valve assembly has a valve body with an axially oriented valve bore and a valve cavity that intersects the valve bore. A disk valve member is positioned within the valve cavity and has a disk bore. A piston member is moveable between a contracted position and an extended position, such that in the contracted position the disk valve member is in a valve closed position with the disk bore offset from the valve bore, and in the extended position the disk valve member is in a valve open position with the disk bore axially aligned with the valve bore. An uphole seal member circumscribes the valve bore, forming a seal between the uphole side of the disk valve member and the valve body. A downhole seal member circumscribes the valve bore, forming a seal between the downhole side of the disk valve member and the valve body.

  • Publication number: 20190368305
Abstract: A method for treating a well includes flowing a sealant heated to a gaseous phase to cement disposed in an annulus of a wellbore, where the annulus is formed between a casing installed in the wellbore and a cylindrical wall radially outward of the casing. The cement includes a fluid loss opening formed over time. The method includes flowing the sealant in gaseous phase through the fluid loss opening in the cement of the annulus, and cooling the sealant in the gaseous phase into a phase transition of the sealant. The phase transition includes a deposition of the sealant from the gaseous phase to a solid phase or a condensation of the sealant from the gaseous phase to a liquid phase. Further, the sealant seals the fluid loss opening in response to cooling the sealant.
