  • Patent number: 8204736
Abstract: A mechanism is provided for determining a second document of a set of documents in a second language having the same textual content as a first document in a first language. A first histogram that is indicative of the textual content of the first document is generated. A second histogram is generated for each document of the set of documents. Each second histogram is indicative of the textual content of a document of the set of documents. Each second histogram is compared with the first histogram to determine at least one histogram from the plurality of second histograms which matches the first histogram. The second document is then identified as the document having the at least one histogram.

  • Publication number: 20120150854
Abstract: The subject disclosure is directed towards using a satisfaction model's prediction as to whether a user was satisfied or dissatisfied in satisfying a search goal to help estimate the relevance of a URL/document that was returned and clicked by the user. The clickthrough data for a search goal session is processed by either a utility model or a despair model based on whether the satisfaction model indicated that the search goal session ended with the user satisfied or dissatisfied, respectively. The utility model distributes a utility value to each clicked URL, while the despair model distributes a despair value to each clicked URL. The utility value and despair value of each query-URL pair may be used as corresponding feature data for learning a search ranker.

  • Patent number: 8128036
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for controlling the attitude of a mobile platform with a resolution suitable for vernier attitude control. In one embodiment a method includes flowing fluid through an orifice of an aerodynamic surface. The method also includes modifying a boundary layer of the aerodynamic surface with the flowing fluid. Another embodiment provides an aerodynamic member of a mobile platform. The aerodynamic member includes an aerodynamic surface, an orifice, an actuator, and a fluid moving member. The orifice is in the aerodynamic surface and the actuator is subject to friction and backlash. The fluid moving member communicates with the orifice and causes the fluid to flow through the orifice to modify the boundary layer of aerodynamic surface.

  • Publication number: 20110309201
Abstract: An air vehicle includes an airfoil designed for transonic flight. The airfoil has a region of supersonic flow during transonic flight. A surface of the airfoil has upstream and downstream orifices at or within the region. The air vehicle further includes an active flow control system for controlling air vehicle motion during transonic flight by controlling flow through the orifices to alter strength and location of a shock wave in the region. The system creates an aerodynamic imbalance to move the shock wave.

  • Patent number: 8016245
Abstract: A system for reducing overall drag of a mobile platform includes a surface on which an airflow forms a boundary layer and a generally normal shockwave. The airflow is at a first velocity that is one of transonic and supersonic. An oscillating jet injects and extracts a jet flow through the surface. The jet flow is at a second velocity that is substantially less than the first velocity. A recirculation region is upstream of the normal shockwave and is disposed at least partially in the boundary layer. The recirculation region is established at least by the oscillating jet. A generally oblique wave is established by the recirculation region and weakens the normal shockwave to reduce the overall drag experienced by the surface.

  • Publication number: 20100161591
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for determining a prediction measurement, or measure, using geo-spatial information which can be used to determine whether or not to include type of information in search results. The prediction measurement comprises a measure of the likelihood that an item of the type of information for which the prediction measure is determined will be selected, or clicked on, by a user, if the item of the type of information is included in the search result. Without limitation, one such information type is news.

  • Patent number: 7730033
Abstract: Described is a mechanism for exposing a volume shadow copy of a shared volume over a network to a remote client. A shared volume is accessed at a client computing system having a root. A volume shadow copy (or “snapshot”) of the volume is identified as a child resource of the shared volume. The child resource representing the snapshot may be hidden from ordinary view by default. To access the snapshot, a user may access the child resource as if it were an ordinary file or directory on the shared volume. Advantageously, the user need not mount a new volume representing the snapshot volume, but rather the user may directly access the snapshot.

  • Patent number: 7539722
Abstract: A method and system for providing state-full access to files and resuming access should a connection be broken. A resume key is returned to the client that allows the client to request a duplicate handle to an open file. The duplicate handle can be used to access the file in the same manner as the handle used to open the file. When a connection is broken, the file remains open on the server for a period of time and the state information associated with the file is maintained. Even if a connection is not broken, a client may request one or more duplicate handles and establish other channels (also known as connections) with which to access the file.
