Abstract: The invention relates to pharmaceutical preparations, containing a specific crystal modification (subsequently called "modification II") of isopropyl-(2-methoxyethyl) 1,4-dihydro-2,6-dimethyl-4-(3-nitrophenyl)-3,5-pyridinedicarboxylate (nimodipine) and to a process for its preparation.

Abstract: The invention is directed to the provision of solid pharmaceutical compositions (and methods for their preparation) containing nifidipine crystals with a specific surface area of 1.0 to 4.0 m.sup.2 /g., in admixture with a solid diluent. The said compositions overcome the deficiencies of prior art compositions containing nifidipine, which is known to have effect as a coronary vasodilator.

Abstract: Solid dihydropyridines, e.g. nifedipine and nimodipine preparations having a maximum standard deviation of the active compound content of 3% contain 1 part by weight of nifedipine, 2 to 6 parts by weight of PVP with a mean molecular weight of 15,000 to 50,000, 3.5 to 15 parts by weight of cellulose, 0.25 to 4 parts by weight of starch and 0.5 to 4 parts by weight of cross-linked insoluble PVPP, and, if appropriate, one or more further pharmaceutical auxiliaries and excipients. These preparations show a good release of dihydropyridine with good content uniformity.

Abstract: A sprayable liquid formulation comprising, per 100 ml of the formulation,(a) 0.2 to 5 grams of a dihydropyridine of the formula ##STR1## in which R.sup.1 and R.sup.2 each independently is alkyl with 1 to 10 carbon atoms optionally substituted by alkoxy with 1 to 3 carbon atoms, trifluoromethyl, halogen or N-methyl-N-benzylamino,R.sup.3 is alkyl with 1 to 4 carbon atoms, cyano or hydroxymethyl, andX is a nitro group, one or two chlorine groups or the ring member .dbd.N--O--N.dbd.,(b) 10 to 40 grams of polyethylene glycol with an average molecular weight of 200 to 600,(c) 25 to 60 grams of ethyl alcohol, and(d) 3 to 15 grams of polyvinylpyrrolidine with an average molecular weight of 12000 to 30000.

Abstract: Parenteral solutions comprising(a) a sparingly soluble medicament active compound,(b) a solvent consisting of(i) 5-100 M/V % of an organic solvent or of a mixture of organic solvents and(ii) 0-95 W/V % of water,(c) A 0.5-30 W/V % strength aqueous solution of a human serum protein and customary auxiliaries and/or excipients, 1 to 40,000 parts by weight, preferably 25 to 30,000 parts by weight of solvent (b) and 1 to 1,000,000 parts by weight, preferably 50 to 40,000 parts by weight, of human serum protein solution (c) being present per part by weight of medicament active compound.The sparingly soluble medicament active compounds which can be used have a solubility in water of between 1 .mu.g and 10 g, preferably between 10 .mu.g and 1 g per liter of water. Examples of such medicaments are dihydropyridine compounds and pyrazolones, and muzolimine.

Abstract: Light-fast capsules for dihydropyridines such as nifedipine and nisoldipine are formed of gelatin colored with a mixture of .beta.-carotene and iron oxide.

Abstract: In the treatment of cardiovascular and coronary disorders by administering to a patent suffering therefrom a solid preparation comprising nifedipine, the improvement which comprises administering such nifedipine in the form of a solid two-phase medicament formulation comprising a nifedipine coprecipitate, in which the nifedipine is present in a non-crystalline form, and crystalline nifedipine, whereby the nifedipine rapidly enters the blood stream in a relatively high concentration which is maintained for a relatively long time.
