Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A base station may perform a channel access procedure on a shared radio frequency spectrum band using a first beam configuration. The base station may transmit, based at least in part on successful completion of the channel access procedure, a reservation request message (RRQ) to a user equipment (UE) using a second beam configuration, the second beam configuration comprising a beam width that is equal to or narrower than a beam width of the first beam configuration. • Publication number: 20190104546
Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A wireless device may determine an interference status of each beam configuration of a plurality of active beam configurations for a shared radio frequency spectrum band. The wireless device may determine a beam-specific listen-before-talk (LBT) requirement for each beam configuration of the plurality of active beam configurations based at least in part on the determined interference status of each beam configuration. The wireless device may selectively enable an LBT procedure on a per-beam basis according to the determined beam-specific LBT requirement for each beam configuration.

  • Publication number: 20190075595
Abstract: Preceded contention reservation signals for synchronous new radio (NR) shared spectrum (NR-SS) networks are disclosed. A transmitter that uses precoded contention reservation signals may be configured either to skip or use the training phase for determining rank parameters. The transmitter participates in contention resolution with its receiver by transmitting the precoded contention reservation signals precoded with tentative rank parameters. After contention interval, receiver sends feedback to the transmitter identifying proposed rank parameters based on the strongest precoded contention signals of any neighboring nodes that also won access to the channel. When configured to skip the training phase, the transmitter sets the rank parameters according to the proposed rank parameters. Otherwise, the transmitter participates in the training phase with other winning nodes transmitting signals identifying proposed rank parameters.

  • Publication number: 20180343588
Abstract: A medium reservation framework is disclosed for coexistence of coordinated and uncoordinated wireless networks in licensed spectrum and shared spectrum. The proposed medium reservation framework organically takes into account operating regimes with different numbers of Tx/Rx antennas per node, provides flexibility in trading off medium contention aggressiveness and power saving, leverages the inherent synchronization nature of NR, and covers both coordinated and uncoordinated operation scenarios. Various aspects of the medium reservation framework may be centered on one or more combinations of some basic building blocks, such as an operation grid, synchronization signals, and reservation messages, such as a reservation request signal (RRQ) and one or more a reservation response signals (RRS).

  • Patent number: 10110337
Abstract: Aspects for reducing interference between networks are provided. A signal transmitted by one or more devices in a first network over a communications medium using an unlicensed frequency spectrum is decoded to determine one or more parameters of a packet in the signal. A level of utilization of the communications medium by the one or more devices in the first network can be estimated based at least in part on a signal strength of the signal and the one or more parameters. A period of time for communicating in a second network over the communications medium using the unlicensed frequency spectrum can be adjusted based at least in part on the level of utilization of the communications medium by the first network.

  • Publication number: 20180302201
Abstract: Sounding reference signal (SRS) transmission with implied request-to-send (RTS)/clear-to-send (CTS) operations is discussed. Two different types of SRS are defined, a legacy SRS associated with channel measurement sounding, and a contention SRS associated with contention resolution for medium sharing. The type of SRS may be distinguished based on the SRS resource associated with the particular type. Thus, legacy SRS are assigned to one SRS resource, while contention SRS are assigned to separate SRS resources. Therefore, when a neighbor node detects an SRS associated with the SRS resource for contention-type SRS, the neighbor node may know to refrain from transmission or to adjust or modify its communications depending on a spatial direction of the contention SRS.

  • Publication number: 20180295622
Abstract: Techniques are described herein to selectively protect some resources of a transmission opportunity, but not all resources of a transmission opportunity. A base station may schedule resources to be used to communicate data with a user equipment (UE). To indicate to potential interference sources, a silencing message may broadcast to other network entities. The silencing message may include an indication of resources to be protected for a transmission between the base station and the UE. The silencing message may indicate a subset of resources that is less than a set of all resources of a transmission opportunity. In some examples, the silencing message may indicate a subset of frequency subbands of the transmission opportunity. In response to the silencing message, potential interference sources may refrain from communicating data during the indicated subset of resources.

Abstract: Techniques for managing re-contention on a shared communication medium are disclosed. In order to facilitate re-contending for access to the communication medium, an access point may adjust one or more uplink transmission parameters associated with a triggering condition for invoking a contention timer. In addition or as an alternative, the access point may mute transmission on the communication medium during one or more symbol periods designated for transmission. In addition or as an alternative, the access point may configure a timing advance to create a re-contention gap.

  • Patent number: 10080159
Abstract: Systems and methods for dynamic bandwidth management for load-based equipment in unlicensed spectrum are disclosed. In an aspect, the disclosure provides a method for dynamic bandwidth management. The method includes obtaining training data by monitoring a plurality of channels in an unlicensed spectrum during a training period. The method further includes determining that at least a first channel of the plurality of channels is available for a transmission. The method also includes determining, based on the training data, whether to wait for an additional channel of the plurality of channels to become available for the transmission. Determining whether to wait may be based on either training data including probabilities that no additional channel is to become available within a transmission opportunity or a machine learning classification of a current state of the backoff counters based on training data including samples of previous states of backoff counters.

  • Publication number: 20180227936
Abstract: Techniques for autonomous uplink (AUL) transmissions are provided that allow for efficient use of shared radio frequency spectrum band resources. A user equipment (UE) may determine a duration of an AUL transmission and modify an uplink waveform or provide an indication to a base station of one or more channel resources that may be available for base station transmissions, in order to more fully utilize shared radio frequency spectrum band resources within a maximum channel occupancy time (MCOT). A base station may activate or deactivate AUL transmissions through downlink control information (DCI) transmitted to the UE. A UE and base station may exchange various other control information to provide relatively efficient autonomous uplink transmissions and use of the shared radio frequency spectrum band resources.

  • Patent number: 10044438
Abstract: Techniques for managing operation on a communication medium shared between Radio Access Technologies (RATs) are disclosed. The management may comprise, for example, monitoring the medium for first RAT signaling in accordance with a first RAT; determining a utilization metric associated with utilization of the medium by the first RAT signaling; cycling operation in accordance with a second RAT between activated periods and deactivated periods of communication over the medium in accordance with a Time Division Multiple Access (TDM) communication pattern based on the utilization metric; and periodically disabling the cycling to provide an AOS period of activated communication over the medium for operation in accordance with the second RAT, with the AOS period being longer than an individual activated period of the TDM communication pattern. The management may also comprise, for example, techniques for enabling/disabling monitoring by an access terminal in accordance with the TDM communication pattern.
