Abstract: Apparatus and methods for multi-cell broadcast access channel utilization in a wireless network. In one embodiment, the apparatus and methods provide random access channel (RACH) procedure for a 3GPP-compliant user device (e.g., an enhanced UE or UEe) which attempts to connect to multiple cells simultaneously. In one variant, the UEe employs a multi-step (e.g., 4-step) RACH procedure to connect to the multiple cells. This significantly increases the likelihood of RACH procedure success and UEe access. In another variant, a 2-step RACH process is utilized. Variants of the apparatus and methods utilizing unlicensed spectrum and LBT (listen-before-talk) protocols are also described.

Abstract: A system and method for facilitating the establishment of a virtual private network between a network and a remote computer, the system having: a mobile device connectable to the remote computer and storing a user profile, virtual private network information, and password information; virtual private network software being located on one of the mobile device and the remote computer; an access point communicating with the network; and communication means for communications between the access point and one of the mobile device and the remote computer, wherein the user profile, virtual private network information, and password information is passed to the virtual private network software upon connection of the mobile device to the remote computer, the virtual private network software using the user profile, virtual private network information, and password information to establish a virtual private network through the communications means and the access point to the network.

Abstract: A method of creating/terminating a connection associated with an end-to-end path defined through a communications network. According to the invention, cross-connection download/undownload processes in each intermediate node of the end-to-end path are triggered substantially in parallel. A confirmation message indicative of successful completion of respective download/undownload processes in each intermediate node is subsequently propagated to an end-node of the path.
