Patent number: 10404506Abstract: An interference variance estimation method includes receiving a composite sample comprising a sample of a first OFDM transmission scheme interfered by out-of-band interference of a second OFDM transmission scheme; determining for each of the resource elements of the first transmission scheme a power estimate of the out-of-band interference; and filtering the power estimates over subcarriers corresponding to a same symbol, wherein weights of the filtering are based on a correlation property of the power estimates with respect to the subcarriers. An interference cancellation method includes: receiving the composite sample; determining a first estimate of the out-of-band interference with respect to non-data bearing subcarriers; determining a second estimate of the out-of-band interference with respect to data bearing subcarriers based on the first estimate; and cancelling the out-of-band interference based on the composite signal and the second estimate.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 2017Date of Patent: September 3, 2019Assignee: Intel IP CorporationInventors: Ahmed S. Ibrahim, Mohamed F. Marzban, Belal S. Amin

Patent number: 9743417Abstract: Disclosed systems and methods mitigate interference in heterogeneous networks. Embodiments include adaptive or selective inter-cell interference coordination, adaptive multi-user zero forcing, adaptive power, and/or combinations of the foregoing. Techniques may be used to favor one group of users (e.g., femto users or macro users) over another. Certain embodiments focus quality of service (QoS) improvements on a first group of users, while using constraint processes to provide a threshold QoS for a second group of users.Type: GrantFiled: February 9, 2016Date of Patent: August 22, 2017Assignee: INTEL CORPORATIONInventors: Ahmed S. Ibrahim, Hani H. Elgebaly, Esraa Makled, Ahmed M. Darwish

Publication number: 20160309313Abstract: In one example embodiment, a mobile computing device provides assistance services for visitors at events which involve large crowds and long distances. The mobile computing device may be used to read a unique identifier for a visitor from an identification token for the visitor. The mobile computing device may then send visitor location data for the current location of the visitor to a remote command center. The mobile computing device may then receive leader location data from the remote command center. The leader location data may identify a last known location for a leader of a group of visitors that includes the visitor. After receiving the leader location data, the mobile computing device may compute directions from the current location of the visitor to the last known location of the leader, and the mobile computing device may display those directions on a map. Other embodiments are described and claimed.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 15, 2016Publication date: October 20, 2016Applicant: INTEL CORPORATIONInventors: Hani H. Elgebaly, Ashraf H. Badawi, Ahmed S. Ibrahim, Mohamed Yousef Soliman

Publication number: 20160057636Abstract: A technology for a user equipment (UE) in a heterogeneous network (HetNet). A modulation order can be selected for transmission from a small cell in the HetNet. A change in a UE state of the RRC idle mode can be identified. A desired coding rate can be identified to apply to the modulation order for a selected modulation and coding scheme (MCS) index. A predetermined transport block size (TBS) can be selected. Data in the TBS can be transmitted from the small cell to a UE using the MCS.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 27, 2014Publication date: February 25, 2016Inventors: Ahmed S. IBRAHIM, Shady O.
