  • Publication number: 20160160607
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention generally relates to downhole drilling operations. Particularly, the present invention relates to methods and apparatus to provide remote control of flow communication between inner passage flow and annulus depending on the circumstances where it might be needed. The invention is installed as part of the drilling string comprises of a body, a sleeve, a barrel cam, a restrictor, a ball, a resilient element, and a housing embodying all the elements. The ball is introduced from surface to activate the apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20160145974
Abstract: An apparatus for power conservation and selectively switching between one or more power source and a load disposed within a downhole tool based on specific condition of the environment comprising an electrical load, at least one electric power source, a controllable power switch for selectively electrically connecting and disconnecting the electric power and a controller responsive to a predetermined change in the environment; A method for power conservation of a downhole tool in response to a predetermined change in a physical property of the environment, and a method for cooling a component in a downhole tool using drilling fluid inserted form surface.

  • Patent number: 9309726
Abstract: An apparatus and method for remotely adjusting the hydraulic horse power per square inch (HSI) of a drill bit. The apparatus and method may allow the nozzle geometry to be varied remotely without the need to pull the drill string outside the hole. This nozzle may include a body configured to be secured within the rotary drill bit, and a fluid passage within that body that leads to an orifice. The geometry of the fluid passage may be variable, and varying it may result in a change in the nozzle HSI; this may allow drilling different rock formations to be optimized in different drilling environments. Different placements of the nozzle, such as within the inner flow passage or between the inner flow passage and annular flow passage for controlling flow profile within a wellbore, a tubular string or a flow conduit, may be envisioned.

  • Publication number: 20150136489
Abstract: The present invention relates to apparatus and methods for remotely adjusting the drill bit hydraulic horse power per square inch (HSI). Varying the nozzle geometry remotely without the need to pull the drill string outside the hole has obvious advantage. Changing the nozzle flow geometry results in changing the nozzle HSI, which is beneficial to optimize drilling a well having different rock formations. The drill bit nozzle geometry of the present invention can be varied by causing a change of at least one physical property of the environment. The variable geometry nozzle is not limited to drill bit, it can be placed within the inner flow passage or between the inner flow passage and annular flow passage for controlling flow profile within a wellbore, a tubular string or a flow conduit.

Abstract: The present invention relates to apparatus and methods for remotely adjusting the drill bit hydraulic horse power per square inch (HSI). Varying the nozzle geometry remotely without the need to pull the drill string outside the hole has obvious advantage. Changing the nozzle glow geometry results in changing the nozzle HSI which is beneficial to optimize drilling different rock formations in different drilling environment. There are many concepts to vary the nozzle size while drilling. The drill bit nozzle geometry can be varied by causing a change of at least one physical property of the environment. The variable geometry nozzle is not limited to drill bit, it can be placed within the inner flow passage or between the inner flow passage and annular flow passage for controlling flow profile within a wellbore, a tubular string or a flow conduit.
