  • Patent number: 10194383
Abstract: An apparatus, system, and method for selecting a connection for a real time application. In one embodiment, a mobile device may communicate with a cellular network over a cellular connection and a WLAN network over a WLAN connection. The mobile device may determine one or more network parameters of the cellular network or the WLAN network, which may affect power consumption of the mobile device. Based on the network parameter(s), the mobile device may select the WLAN connection for use in a real-time application of the mobile device.

  • Patent number: 9955290
Abstract: The embodiments set forth a technique for enabling a group of computing devices to delegate tasks in a manner that promotes energy savings. According to one embodiment, each computing device is configured to identify situations where the computing device has an energy advantage (e.g., when plugged-in) and should serve as a proxy computing device to other computing devices. Each computing device is also configured to identify situations where the computing device has an energy disadvantage (e.g., a low battery) and should seek out another computing device to act as a proxy computing device. In this manner, computing devices can delegate tasks between one another to reduce or eliminate the processing redundancies that otherwise occur when the computing devices work in isolation to maintain network connectivity and carry out tasks on their own.

  • Publication number: 20140120859
Abstract: User equipment that includes multiple Subscriber Identity Modules (SIMs) may determine a selected SIM network connection to perform an elevated priority call request. The user equipment may obtain a first network characteristic for a first SIM network connection and a second network characteristic for a second SIM network connection. The user equipment may analyze the first and second network characteristics to determine a selected network connection, which the user equipment may use to perform an elevated priority outgoing call, e.g., an emergency call. The user equipment may obtain the network characteristics, analyze the obtained network characteristics, or determined the selected network connection either before or after recognizing the elevated priority call request for an outgoing call.
