  • Patent number: 9285923
Abstract: A display includes a display area that emits light and a border region surrounding at least a portion of the light emitting region. A light guide plate is overlaying the display area. A lighting module is operatively interconnected with the light guide plate to provide light to the light guide plate and positioned within the border region, and a one camera module is operatively interconnected with the light guide plate to sense light from the light guide plate and positioned within the border region. The display determines a position of a touch on the light guide plate by determining a location of frustrated total internal reflection within the light guide plate as a result of the touch on the light guide plate.

  • Patent number: 9076058
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention are related to systems, methods and apparatus for determining the orientation of a text line or a page in a document image. According to a first aspect of the present invention, an image of text blobs may be generated from a text mask associated with a document image. From the text-blob image, pixel-wise horizontal differences may be accumulated and compared to accumulated pixel-wise vertical differences. Text line orientation may be determined as horizontal when the accumulated pixel-wise horizontal differences are less than the accumulated pixel-wise vertical differences. According to a second aspect of the present invention, page orientation may be determined by reconciling an estimated text-line orientation with document language information.

  • Patent number: 8947453
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention are related to systems and methods for correcting artifacts in a camera-captured image of a document or image of an object exhibiting document-like content. A mobile device may capture an image and send the image to a cloud computing system for processing. According to a first aspect of the present invention, the mobile device may provide real-time feedback cues to assist in the capture of an image. The mobile device may detect a region-of-interest in the captured image, and a user may refine or confirm the detected region-of-interest. The captured image, information identifying the region-of-interest and a metadata tag, referred to as a region-of-interest modification tag, indicating whether, or not, the region-of-interest was refined by a user may be sent to the cloud.

  • Patent number: 8655071
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention are related to systems and methods for identifying a document region in a non-scanned image. A first candidate document region-of-interest mask may be determined from a luminance-only image by foreground elimination, non-uniformity reduction and thresholding. A second candidate document region-of-interest mask may be formed by subtracting from the first candidate document region-of-interest mask an edge mask resulting from detecting edges in the luminance-only input image. The second candidate document region-of-interest mask may be refined, to form a final document region-of-interest mask, based on text features calculated from the luminance-only input image. The document region-of-interest may be extracted using the final document region-of-interest mask.

  • Patent number: 8620080
Abstract: Aspects of the present invention relate to systems and methods for locating text in a digital image. According to a first aspect of the present invention, a multi-stage filtering technique may be used to progressively refine a set of candidate text components associated with a digital image. A first, refined set of candidate text components may be formed by filtering an initial set of candidate text components based on component properties. Text lines may reconstructed from the first, refined set of candidate text components. The first, refined set of candidate text components may be further filtered based on text-line properties measured on the reconstructed text lines.
