    Abstract: Particles are hydrophobicized by treatment with a compound containing amino and silane groups. The invention is particularly useful for treating hydrophilic inorganic particles. The treated particles can be used, for example, as a compound agent for polymers. The production and use of a predispersion or concentrate comprising a major amount of the treated particles and a binder is also described.

    Abstract: A process is provided for the production of a mixture of butadiene-acrylonitrile polymer and zinc peroxide which comprises (i) reacting an agitated aqueous mixture of French Process zinc oxide, sulphuric acid and hydrogen peroxide to form an aqueous slurry of a mixture of zinc peroxide and zinc oxide, and (ii) mixing with said slurry a latex of a butadiene-acrylonitrile polymer, followed by coagulating the mixture and recovering and drying the product.

    Abstract: The polymerization of butadiene and styrene in an emulsion, free-radical polymerization process using a persulphate initiator is effectively short-stopped by the addition of ascorbic acid or the sodium or potassium salts thereof. The butadiene-styrene polymer so produced may be used in those end uses generally associated with the prior known use of such polymers.
