    Abstract: Control of operation of an internal combustion engine is responsive to an estimate of catalyst deterioration in an engine exhaust gas catalytic treatment device, including ignition timing control, intake air control, and supplemental catalyst heating control. The deterioration estimate is responsive to a catalyst temperature estimate which may be corrected in accord with the estimated deterioration.
