  • Patent number: 10402037
Abstract: Approaches are described for determining and displaying recommended content on a lock screen of a computing device. For example, a lock screen can include recommended content that can display user-specific offers and/or other information determined to be relevant to the user. One of a full-screen template, a banner template, or a notification template include the recommended content. The recommended content can include selectable elements that, when selected, can cause the computing device to perform an action such as launching an application, providing additional displays, etc. Using display information, the computing device can determine a display schedule, whereby the display schedule can be used to set a frequency at which the recommended content is displayed, a time at which the recommended content is displayed, the type of template used to express the recommended content, placement of the recommended content on a display screen, among other such display options.

  • Patent number: 9071967
Abstract: Various embodiments enable devices to share network authentication credentials or other information. For example, a computing device authorized to access a wireless network can be used to manage access to the wireless network, such as by modifying, sharing, or creating a password to access the wireless network. A peer-to-peer connection can be established between the authorized computing device and at least one other computing device (e.g., a guest computing device). Upon establishing the peer-to-peer connection between the devices, a service, application, or system component operating on each device can be used to share network authentication credentials between the devices. For example, the user of the authorized device can cause to be transmitted network authentication credentials to a guest computing device.

  • Patent number: 8868694
Abstract: A smart network may include a smart network host device as well as a smart network connector device, a smart network extender device and one or more client devices configured to connect to the smart network. An installation module is configured to connect to the smart network host device to determine whether a user is attempting to setup multiple network devices substantially simultaneously. The installation module then configures the multiple network devices based on the other network devices connected to the smart network host device. The installation module simplifies setup of the smart network by combining the configuration of multiple network devices into a single setup flow.

  • Publication number: 20130124715
Abstract: In one embodiment, a method is presented for determining which downloadable applets are exposed to a user of a computer when the computer is connected to a network. Included are the steps of detecting a change in the topology of a network, requesting from a router device topology information for the network, comparing the topology information against a requirements list associated with an application executing on the computing device, where the requirements list delineates at least one of a capability and a service necessary for the application to operate properly within a network, and determining whether the application is supported by the topology of the smart home network. If the application is supported, then the application is exposed, unless the application is not permitted to operate within the network. If the application is not supported or not permitted to operate within the network, then the application is not exposed.
