    Abstract: Compositions for humidity activated release of antimicrobials, and associated methods, are generally provided. Certain aspects are related to compositions comprising delivery materials (e.g., silica-based delivery materials) and antimicrobials. The delivery material and the antimicrobial can be associated with each other such that when humidity is introduced to the composition, at least a portion of the antimicrobial is released from the composition. Methods of releasing antimicrobials from compositions are also provided. Certain methods comprise allowing antimicrobial to be released from a composition such that the antimicrobial suppresses the actions or adverse effects of pathogens or pests.
