  • Patent number: 9957763
Abstract: A ball release tool includes a body providing a first end and a second end, and defining a flow passageway extending between the first and second ends. A ball is releasably coupled to the body at the second end. One or more flow ports are defined in the body and in fluid communication with the flow passageway, wherein pressure of a fluid introduced into the flow passageway is increased to release the ball from the body.

  • Publication number: 20170002627
Abstract: A fluidic oscillator assembly can include at least one fluidic oscillator, and a closure that in one position prevents flow through the oscillator to an exterior of the assembly, and in another position permits flow through the oscillator to the exterior. A method can include flowing fluid longitudinally through a fluidic oscillator assembly in a well, then diverting the fluid to flow outward from the assembly via at least one fluidic oscillator, the fluid being prevented from flowing longitudinally through the assembly. A well system can include a drill string having a fluidic oscillator assembly, a drill bit, and a drilling motor disposed between the drill bit and the assembly. The assembly can include a closure that in one position prevents fluid flow through a fluidic oscillator to an annulus formed between the drill string and a wellbore, and in another position permits fluid flow through the oscillator.

  • Publication number: 20150139735
Abstract: A packer apparatus includes an actuator disk in axial moveable relation with a mandrel, an elastomeric expansion boot arranged between the actuator disk and the mandrel, and a brake pivotally connected to the mandrel. The actuator disk is configured to be actuated by fluid pressure within a pipeline to move axially toward the mandrel from a first position to a second position. In the second position, the actuator disk is configured to cause the expansion boot to be compressed axially between the actuator disk and the mandrel and to be radially expanded into engagement with an inner surface of the pipeline, and the brake to pivot relative to the mandrel, which causes the brake to move radially outward into engagement with the inner surface of the pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20150063914
Abstract: A packer apparatus includes a spindle including a pressure plate disposed adjacent a first end of the packer apparatus, a first end cap defining the second end of the packer apparatus; a seal plate disposed between the pressure plate and the first end cap; a mandrel and a brake disposed between the pressure and seal plates, and an elastomeric expansion boot disposed between the seal plate and the first end cap. The mandrel includes a tapered outer surface and the brake includes a tapered inner surface abutting the tapered inner surface of the mandrel. The pressure plate is configured to be actuated by fluid pressure within the pipeline to move the spindle axially toward the first end cap from a first position to a second position to cause the expansion boot and the brake to engage an inner surface of the pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20150063920
Abstract: A wet buckle packer includes a first disk and a second disk offset from and axially aligned with the first disk. A mandrel, elastomeric expansion boot, and brake are disposed between and axially aligned with the first and second disks. The mandrel includes a tapered outer surface and the brake includes a tapered inner surface abutting the tapered inner surface of the mandrel. The first disk is configured to move axially toward the second disk from a first position to a second position. In the second position, the first disk causes: the expansion boot to compress axially and expand radially into engagement with an inner surface of the pipeline; and the tapered inner surface of the brake to move axially along the tapered outer surface of the stationary mandrel to cause the brake to move radially outward into engagement with the inner surface of the pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20150063915
Abstract: A packer apparatus is configured to be arranged within and arrest a failure of a submerged pipeline. In one example, the packer apparatus includes first and second mandrels in axially moveable relation to one another, a brake connected to the second mandrel, and an elastomeric expansion boot circumferentially disposed around a portion of the first and second mandrels. The first mandrel is configured to move axially toward the second mandrel from a first position to a second position. In the second position, the first mandrel is configured to cause the expansion boot to be compressed axially between the first and second mandrels and expanded radially into engagement with an inner surface of the pipeline, and to cause the brake to move radially outward to engage the inner surface of the pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20150060080
Abstract: A tool is configured to be deployed via a hoist line in the inner diameter of a pipe or a wellbore. The tool includes an end cap including an aperture, a disconnect device including a collet, at least a portion of which collet is received within the aperture, and an actuated member configured to move from a first position to a second position relative to the disconnect device. In the first position, the actuated member engages the collet to lock the disconnect device to the end cap. In the second position, the actuated member disengages the collet to unlock the disconnect device from the end cap.

  • Publication number: 20150063919
Abstract: A packer apparatus is configured to be arranged within and arrest a failure of a submerged pipeline. In one example, the packer apparatus includes first and second mandrels coupled in selectively axial moveable relation to one another, and an elastomeric expansion boot circumferentially disposed around a portion of the second mandrel. The first mandrel is responsive to fluid flow in the pipeline to move axially toward the second mandrel from a first position to a second position. In the second position, the expansion boot is compressed axially between the first and second mandrels and expanded radially into engagement with an inner surface of the pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20150063921
Abstract: A packer apparatus includes a first spindle in axial moveable relation with a second spindle. The first spindle includes a pressure plate and the second spindle includes a base plate. A seal plate is disposed between the pressure and base plates. A brake is disposed between the pressure and seal plates. An elastomeric expansion boot is disposed between the seal and base plates. The pressure plate is configured to be actuated by fluid pressure within the pipeline to move the first spindle axially toward the second spindle from a first position to a second position. In the second position, the first spindle causes: the brake to move radially outward into engagement with an inner surface of the pipeline; and the seal plate to move axially toward the base plate to axially compress and radially expand the expansion boot into engagement with the inner surface of the pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20150063918
Abstract: A packer apparatus includes an actuator disk and a seal disk in axial moveable relation with a mandrel, and a brake pivotally connected to the mandrel. The actuator disk includes a tapered outer surface. The seal disk is arranged between the actuator disk and the mandrel and includes a rim angled toward the actuator disk. The actuator disk is configured to be actuated by fluid pressure within the pipeline to move axially toward the mandrel from a first position to a second position. In the second position, the tapered outer surface of the actuator disk deflects the rim of the seal disk toward the mandrel to cause the seal disk to radially expand and engage an inner surface of the pipeline. Additionally, in the second position, the brake pivots relative to the mandrel and moves radially outward into engagement with the inner surface of the pipeline.
