Patent number: 12115295Abstract: A hemodialysis system including one or more ultraviolet chambers is disclosed. The hemodialysis system including a dialyzer arranged and configured to filter a patient's blood, a hemodialysis machine arranged and configured to pump, move, or the like dialysate through the dialyzer, the hemodialysis machine including an outlet valve and an outlet fluid flow path to pump or move dialysate from the hemodialysis machine to the dialyzer, and an inlet valve and an inlet fluid flow path to pump or receive dialysate from the dialyzer, and one or more ultraviolet chambers arranged and configured to kill bacteria, viruses, or a combination thereof. Thus arranged, by incorporating one or more ultraviolet chambers in strategic areas of the system, the ultraviolet chambers may eliminate, or at least greatly reduce, the possibility of cross-contamination in, for example, the dialysate, and thus eliminate the need for disinfecting the system between treatments.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 2021Date of Patent: October 15, 2024Assignee: Fresenius Medical Care Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Kelly Yik, Daniel Schmidt, Aiyuan Wang, Deryu Chen, Christopher McCormick, Evan Zaro

Patent number: 11590454Abstract: A leak may be detected in a heat exchanger of a hemodialysis device. A drain valve is opened by the controller, and then closed by the controller after a pre-selected time period. An initial pressure is determined in the spent dialysate circuit and stored in the memory. A system pressure is determined at periodic time intervals and compared to a pre-determined maximum pressure. The controller then determines whether the heat exchanger has a leak, in that in response to the system pressure exceeding a predetermined maximum pressure, a command is generated to execute an event including suspending a disinfectant operation with a disinfecting agent, and in response to the initial pressure subtracted from the system pressure being greater than a predetermined minimum pressure differential, a command is generated to execute an event including suspending the cleanse operation with the disinfecting agent.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 2019Date of Patent: February 28, 2023Assignee: Fresenius Medical Care Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Martin Crnkovich, Roland Levin, Christopher McCormick, Fei Wang, Aiyuan Wang

Patent number: 10332482Abstract: A medical device, such as a peritoneal dialysis machine, includes a sensor for sensing motion and/or user proximity in the vicinity of the medical device for the purpose of automated dimming a display of the medical device. In the event of a lack of user-activity on a machine interface and a lack of movement detected by the proximity sensor, the machine display is automatically dimmed to minimize power-consumption and provide an enhanced medical device for night therapies in a home or clinic environment. The machine display may be dimmed in the event of an alarm-free machine condition, where no machine activity is detected and/or where no movement is detected by the sensor over one or more time periods. When machine activity is detected, when movement is detected by the proximity sensor, and/or in the event of a machine alarm or warning, the machine display may be automatically undimmed.Type: GrantFiled: September 25, 2015Date of Patent: June 25, 2019Assignee: Fresenius Medical Care Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Kelly Yik, Matthew Doyle, Aiyuan Wang, Thomas Merics
