Abstract: A method for making a payment through a mobile communication device, the method comprising: a. receiving transaction details of the payment by a Paymate, the transaction details being received from a payee, the transaction details comprising at least one of a transaction identifier and a transaction amount; b. sending a text message to the Paymate, the text message being sent by a payer, the text message comprising at least one of the transaction identifier, the transaction amount and a Personal Identification Number (PIN) of the payer; c. verifying the text message on the Paymate, the text message being verified with the transaction details received by the Paymate; d. authenticating the payer on the Paymate, the authentication of the payer being based on at least one of an identification number of the mobile communication device, the PIN of the payer and the transaction amount, wherein the identification number of the mobile communication device is sent along with the text message; and e.

Abstract: The invention provides a method and a system for performing a monetary transaction through a mobile communication device. The monetary transaction is performed through a Paymate. The transaction details of the monetary transaction are initially communicated to the Paymate, which confirms the transaction details with a payer through the mobile communication device. The Paymate authenticates the payer for the monetary transaction and communicates a transaction request to the payer's account. The transaction request is verified and executed at the payer's account, to complete the monetary transaction.

Abstract: The invention provides a mobile device that is capable of providing a number of applications and may be used as a substantially portable mobile phone when some of the applications are not required. The mobile device includes a portable handset and a detachable base unit. The portable handset provides a first plurality of applications and enables mobile communication. The detachable base unit provides a second plurality of additional applications when connected to the portable handset. The portable handset can be disconnected from the detachable base unit and can function as a substantially portable mobile phone.
