  • Publication number: 20240090047
Abstract: This Application sets forth techniques for managing the cellular connectivity state of a submerged wireless device. The wireless device can include sensors that analyze environmental conditions to determine when the wireless device is (or is not) submerged underwater as well as at what depth the wireless device is submerged underwater. The sensors can also determine different types of aquatic activity in which a user of the wireless device is currently engaged, such as swimming, snorkeling, free diving, and scuba diving. In turn, the wireless device can utilize this information to manage its cellular connectivity state in order to avoid wasteful consumptions of energy. In particular, the techniques enable the submerged wireless device to eliminate any existing cellular connection as well as connection reattempts so long as they are unlikely to succeed. Moreover, the techniques enable the wireless device to execute connection reattempts when they are appropriate and likely to succeed.

  • Patent number: 9930044
Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a data processing system for performing a remote direct memory access operation. Responsive to receiving in a network interface controller a hash value of data to be copied from a source address in a source node to a destination address in a destination node in the remote direct memory access operation, the network interface controller performs a lookup operation in a translation protection table in the network interface controller to match the hash value to a hash value for data existing in memory of the destination node. Responsive to the network interface controller finding a match in the translation protection table, the network interface controller completes the remote direct memory access operation without transferring the data from the source node to the destination node.

  • Patent number: 9773011
Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a data processing system for on-demand caching in a wide area network (WAN) separated distributed file system or clustered file system. The mechanism monitors file access by a plurality of cache sites in the WAN separated distributed file system or clustered file system. The mechanism identifies access patterns by cache sites. The mechanism shares the access patterns with the plurality of cache sites. A given cache site within the plurality of cache sites combines the access patterns with local access information and identifies files to pre-fetch based on the combined information.

  • Patent number: 9454538
Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a data processing system for reliable asynchronous solid-state device based de-duplication. Responsive to receiving a write request to write data to the file system, the mechanism sends the write request to the file system, and in parallel, computes a hash key for the write data. The mechanism looks up the hash key in a de-duplication table. The de-duplication table is stored in a memory or a solid-state storage device. Responsive to the hash key not existing in the de-duplication table, the mechanism writes the write data to a storage device, writes a journal transaction comprising the hash key, and updates the de-duplication table to reference the write data in the storage device.

  • Patent number: 9421527
Abstract: A hydrogenation catalyst and a method of hydrogenating a hydrocarbon compound as a substrate using the same are provided. The hydrogenation catalyst includes inorganic nanoparticles and a nitrogen-doped reduced graphene oxide support for supporting the inorganic nanoparticles, and the hydrocarbon compound is derived from a biomass and contains a functional group. Therefore, the hydrogenation catalyst which exhibits a high conversion rate and high selectivity, is stable, and can be easily separated after a hydrogenation reaction, and whose catalytic activities are not significantly altered even when recovered and repeatedly recycled can be provided. The method of hydrogenating a hydrocarbon compound in which hydrogen can be directly produced in a reactor using formic acid as a hydrogen source without supplying additional hydrogen gas and simultaneously be used under normal pressure can also be provided.

  • Patent number: 9125288
Abstract: For ion-mode plasma containment, a toroidal vacuum vessel (322) has a major radius (208) and a minor radius (212). The toroidal vacuum vessel (322) is filled with a gas (391) having an initial particle density. An ionizing device (341) ionizes the gas (391) into a plasma (400). A transformer inductively (326) drives a toroidal particle current (332) comprising an ion current and an electron current about a toroidal axis. The toroidal particle current (322) heats the plasma (400) and generates a poloidal magnetic field (373). Field coils (414) wound poloidally about the toroidal vacuum vessel (322) generate a toroidal magnetic field (371). The toroidal magnetic field (371) at a wall of the toroidal vacuum vessel (322) is adjusted to satisfy a boundary condition for a minimum-energy. The plasma (400) is contained by the radial electric field, the poloidal magnetic field (373), and the toroidal magnetic field (371) within the toroidal vacuum vessel (322) in the minimum-energy state.

  • Patent number: 5555756
Abstract: A method of processing steel strip such that the steel strip can be temper rolled at the increased speeds and better surface texture control of prior art dry lubricants, yet the steel strip can be temper rolled with less frequent replacement of temper mill working rolls. Further, the resulting steel strip has increased stretchability and can be temper rolled to achieve sufficient reduction of YPE at lower working roll pressures and/or lower strip tension, previously only effective when the steel strip was lubricated with a wet lubricant film. Enhanced corrosion resistance is another advantage of this process.
