  • Patent number: 6672376
Abstract: A twisted-louver high performance heat exchanger fin assembly includes a plurality of fin elements each having a louver formed therein. The louvers include first and second portions connected by a twisted portion such that the first and second portions cross in an X-shaped profile.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 27, 2000
Date of Patent: January 6, 2004
    Assignee: Visteon Global Technologies, Inc.
Inventors: Ajit R. Shembekar, Barry W. Blumel, Eugene E. Rhodes
  • Patent number: 6467535
Abstract: A fluid-to-fluid heat exchanger comprising a body having channels side-to-side and extending end-to-end, said channels being capable of directing fluids in alternate and opposite (counter-flow) directions in the body, the body being crimped adjacent to said ends so that the fluid is fully enclosed in said body. Fluid entrance and exit openings in the body so that the alternate channels within the body can enable the fluid to achieve the desired conclusion of the heat exchanger, and manifolds secured to said heat exchanger so that they communicate with alternate channels within the heat exchanger, and some channels are not of the same cross sectional size so that some channels can move more fluid in a given time and are smaller than other channels.

  • Patent number: 6170566
Abstract: A high performance louvered fin for a heat exchanger includes a base wall extending longitudinally to form a strip having a longitudinal axis. The high performance louvered fin includes a plurality of entrance louvers in the base wall extending outwardly at a predetermined angle in a first direction from the base wall. The high performance louvered fin also includes a plurality of exit louvers in the base wall extending outwardly at a predetermined angle in a second direction from the base wall reversed from the first direction. The entrance louvers and the exit louvers extend in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis and are spaced laterally. The high performance louvered fin further includes a turnaround rib in the base wall extending laterally and generally perpendicular to the longitudinal axis between the entrance louvers and the exit louvers.

  • Patent number: 5410992
Abstract: A variable geometry fan duct for an automotive engine cooling system having a fan-cooled, liquid-to-air radiator includes a support structure for securing the fan duct to the radiator and fixed and movable barrel segments which are arranged such that the movable barrel segment may be moved from a first position in which the movable segment is nested with the fixed segment to a second position in which the segments completely encircle and shroud the fan blade.
