  • Publication number: 20090000499
Abstract: Apparatus for applying a liquid medium such as a printing medium to a rotatable cylinder is disclosed including a chambered doctor blade with an elongated frame, a pair of doctor blades in wiping engagement with the surface of the rotatable cylinder, a seal disposed axially with respect to the cylinder including first and second seals, with the elongated frame, the doctor blades, the seal and the surface of the cylinder forming an elongated chamber containing the liquid medium, and at least one drainage channel including an inlet in the space between the two seals for diverting leaking medium from the space. Also disclosed is such apparatus which includes at least one spray nozzle within the elongated chamber for cleaning the chamber, the nozzle being movable between a number of outlet directions. A method for sealing the chambered doctor blade is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20070266870
Abstract: A doctor blade system for printing units is disclosed, which is arranged for applying ink, or the like to a rotatable cylinder in a printing unit, comprising an elongated frame, having a support and at least one clamp, which frame is arranged parallel to and outside the cylinder and on which are mounted, on each clamp of the frame, an elongated doctor blade, which is arranged for operative wiping engagement against the cylinder, each clamping portion comprising an elongated slit into which a doctor blade is intended to be partly introduced and fixed by a clamp, wherein the clamp is resiliently arranged for providing a damping action for the doctor blade. A doctor blade clamping device is also disclosed, as well as a chambered doctor blade system, a printing unit, and a method for attaching a clamping portion of a chambered doctor blade frame.

  • Patent number: 4359799
Abstract: A composite doctor blade assembly includes a length of steel strip 21, forming the doctor blade, and a similar but narrower back-up blade 22. The strips 21, 22 are clamped between a resiliently flexible carrier strip 23 and an arched resilient strip 24 held together under tension by ties 25 passing through apertures 23a, 24a. To make the blade assembly longitudinally flexible, the apertures are elongated. The plate 23 is clamped in a holder between an intermediate element 11 and a bottom element 12 with the interposition of an interchangeable cylindrical packing element 13. The top element 14 is channel shaped to provide extra rigidity.
