  • Patent number: 4684109
Abstract: A melt-transfer device for the protected tapping of molten metal from one vessel to another has a tiltable, cylindrical container with a lid, which is at least partially located in a first end wall in the container. The container is also provided with a melt-tapping pipe which is directed substantially tangentially to the container close to the first-mentioned end wall. In the bottom of the container, in a second end wall, a baffle can be arranged to provide a pocket for a magnesium-containing powder fed into the container through the lid when the container is held in a vertical position.

  • Patent number: 4481639
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for temperature control in a channel of an inductor unit of a channel-type induction furnace for iron or steel. The method is characterized in that the current intensity or the power is measured, and the measuring signal (I, P) is compared with a desired value (I.sub.b, P.sub.b) in a control means for controlling the power of the inductor, the power to the inductor being switched off or reduced at a value I>I.sub.b or P>P.sub.b, where I.sub.b or P.sub.b corresponds to a temperature at or near the Curie point of the iron/steel.In those cases where the inductor is supplied from a thyristor unit, the control can also be carried out so that a constant impedance, corresponding to the conditions at the Curie point, is maintained in the inductor circuit.

  • Patent number: 4415362
Abstract: A melt of magnesium-containing nodular iron partially fills an enclosure forming a space above the melt which fills with the vapor of magnesium evaporated from the melt. Magnesium is fed into the space where the magnesium vaporizes and increases the vapor pressure so as to drive magnesium into the melt and increase its magnesium content.

  • Patent number: 4344652
Abstract: An apparatus for removing the lining of a crucible furnace comprises a tubular support which can be introduced into the furnace substantially in the axial direction of the latter. A power-driven tool, for example a pneumatically operated chisel, is movable along the tubular support in engagement with the lining to be removed. Drive means operable from outside the furnace is provided for moving the tool along the tubular support. A suction means is connected to the tubular support for the purpose of extracting, through the tubular support, dust and lining fragments produced during the operation of removing the lining.

  • Patent number: 4278240
Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for injection of powder in a metal melt, a charging container being filled by means of an ejector via a sieve for separation of coarser grains. The charging container is combined with a lance for immersion into the melt.

  • Patent number: 4244562
Abstract: A lance is removably mounted in a powder container for injecting powder into molten metal within a furnace. The unitary connection of the lance and powder container enables vertical transport of powder as the unit is raisable and lowerable with respect to an opening in the furnace. The powder container can be filled by evacuating it and sucking powder therein. An ejector tube including a cut-off valve maintains the lance opening free from melt when the lance is immersed in the molten metal with no powder injection taking place. A hydraulic cylinder may be used to operate the ejector tube and the cut-off valve. The application of weights enables the container to maintain contact with the furnace roof.
