Patent number: 8792910Abstract: A method and service-related nodes for providing a deferred distance notification for at least two user devices. A Location-based gateway receives a request for a deferred distance notification for user devices, and sends a request to a Location enabler for the location of the user devices. The gateway receives location data from the Location enabler, and monitors the fulfillment of user device distance-related event criteria. When a user device distance-related event criterion is fulfilled, the gateway triggers the deferred distance notification, and sends the notification of the user device distance event to an application node. The application node sends a location request after which the Application node receives the notification. Distance notification can thus be provided to a user requesting a location-deferred service, such that the location of entire groups of users can be revealed to the requesting party.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 2009Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Kermit Qiu, Bjorn Andersson, Vitomir Ilic, Johan Bolin, Ake Busin

Patent number: 8503976Abstract: A method and apparatus for providing location information for subscribers connected to a packet-switched mobile access network in connection with emergency calls made over a multimedia service network. An emergency request is received at the multimedia service network from a subscriber containing the calling number of the subscriber. In response thereto, a media gateway control function in the multimedia service network sends a location query including said calling number to a mobile positioning center in the mobile access network, which then can retrieve location information for the subscriber. After receiving location information from the mobile positioning center, the media gateway control function selects an emergency center and sends a location indication for the subscriber thereto in a circuit-switched control message for initiating an emergency call, according to prevailing standards.Type: GrantFiled: August 2, 2012Date of Patent: August 6, 2013Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Ake Busin, Magnus Olsson, Stephen Terrill

Publication number: 20100273451Abstract: In one aspect of the invention presented herein, a mobile terminal requests positioning assistance data from its supporting wireless communication network, in response to receiving a positioning request from a positioning node. Further, in response to receiving the positioning assistance data from the network, the mobile terminal sends the positioning assistance data to the positioning node. In this manner, the positioning node advantageously gains access to network-generated positioning assistance data without need for requesting it from the network. In at least one embodiment, the mobile terminal receives the positioning request from the positioning node over a User Plane (UP) connection. However, the mobile terminal sends the positioning assistance data request to the base station over a Control Plane (CP) connection, and receives the requested positioning assistance data via the CP. The terminal transfers that data to the UP and sends it to the positioning node.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2009Publication date: October 28, 2010Inventors: Joakim Bergström, Kenneth Balck, Ake Busin, Tao Cui, Martin Israelsson, Tarmo Kuningas, Janne Peisa, Elena Voltolina

Publication number: 20080107243Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining location information for subscribers connected to an IP access network (300), in order to enable supply of such location information in connection with emergency calls directed to a multimedia service network (302). A request is received (3:1) at the multimedia service network from a subscriber (A) containing an IP address currently assigned to the subscriber. In response thereto, the multimedia service network sends a location query (3:2) including said IP address to the IP access network, which then can retrieve (3:3, 3:4) location information for the subscriber based on the IP address, by determining at which point of access in the IP access network the IP address is currently used. The IP access network then submits (3:5) the obtained location information to the multimedia service network in response to the location query.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2005Publication date: May 8, 2008Inventors: Stephen Terrill, Ake Busin, Magnus Olsson
