Abstract: Use of a at least one type of xanthophylls for the preparation of a medicament for prophylactic and/or therapeutic treatment of dyspepsia, is disclosed. The xanthophyll is preferably astaxanthin, e.g. astaxanthin is in a form esterified with fatty acids, such as in algal meal prepared from a culture of the alga Haematococcus sp. The medicament may further comprise carbohydrate structures and/or (a) different antioxidant(s). Further, a method of prophylactic and/or therapeutic treatment of dyspepsia in an individual, is described. The method comprises administration to said individual of an dyspepsia-alleviating amount of a medicament comprising at least one type of xanthophylls.

Abstract: A method of producing immunoglobulin-rich milk, including colostrum, in mammalian mothers, is described. The method includes administration of an effective daily dosage of a preparation containing at least one type of xanthophylls, such as astaxanthin, to said mothers, e.g. cows. Immunoglobulin-rich milk, including colostrum, produced according to the method and immunoglobulin concentrates derived from such milk, including colostrum, are also disclosed. These products may be used as nutrient for mammals, and as raw material for diagnostics, human and veterinary medicines, dermatologic preparations and cosmetics industry.

Abstract: A method of increasing the volume, the total sperm count and the reproductive performance of semen from human and animal males, is described. The method comprises administration of an effective dosage of a human or veterinary preparation containing at least one type of xanthoplylls, such as astaxanthin, to said males. Preferably, the astaxanthin exists in a form esterified with fatty acids, e.g. in the form of algal meal produced by culturing of the alga Haematococcus sp. Further, the use of at least one type of xanthophylls, such as astaxanthin, for the preparation of a human or veterinary preparation for increasing the volume, the total sperm count and the reproductive performance of semen from human and animal males, is disclosed.

Abstract: A method of prophylactic treatment of mastitis in mammalian, including human, mothers, is described. The method comprises administration of a prophylactically effective dosage of a human or veterinary medicament containing at least one type of xanthophylls, such as astaxanthin, to said mothers. Preferably, the astaxanthin exists in a form esterified with fatty acids, e.g. in the form of algae meal produced by culturing of the alga Haematococcus sp. Further, use of at least one type of xanthophylls, such as astaxanthin, for the preparation of a human or veterinary medicament for the prophylactic treatment of mastitis is mammalian, including human, mothers is disclosed.

Abstract: Medicament for the prophylactic and/or therpeutic improvement of the duration of mammalian muscle function and/or treatment of mammalian muscle disorders or diseases, e.g. equine Exertional Rhabdomyolysis, comprising at least one type of xanthophylles, e.g. astaxanthin, is described. Further, the use of xanthophylles in the preparation of such medicaments, and a method of prophylactic and/or therapeutic improvement of the duration of mammalian muscle function and/or treatment of mammalian muscle disorders or diseases, are disclosed.
