    Abstract: A centrifugal separator for separating a dairy product into at least a liquid light phase and a heavy phase. The centrifugal separator comprises a disc stack of frustoconical discs arranged inside the centrifuge bowl. The disc stack comprises a first set of discs and a second set of discs. The discs in the first set of discs are separated from each other by spot-formed spacing members and with a distance that is smaller than 0.3 mm, and the discs in the second set of discs are separated from each other with a distance that is larger than 0.3 mm.

    Abstract: A method of calibrating a centrifugal separator includes retrieving stored data representing a first correlation between different amounts of sediment discharges and rotational speed reductions of the rotatable bowl, generating trigger signals to discharge different amounts of sediment, measuring rotational speed reductions of the rotatable bowl that correspond to the discharges, obtaining values corresponding to the sediment discharges based on the rotational speed reductions and the first correlation, determining data representing a second correlation between the different sediment discharges and trigger signals based on the trigger signals and the values corresponding to the sediment discharges, and obtaining a trigger signal corresponding to a desired discharge amount based on the second correlation.

The invention also relates to a separator for separating a dairy product into a first processed dairy product and a second processed dairy product.
