The ambient telecommunication system further comprises at least one light emitting unit (14) connected to a transmitter or receiver, and is configured to emit light when its corresponding transmitter (11) or receiver (12) is in an active mode. A method for operating the system, and a computer readable medium carrying code segments for carrying out the method is also provided.
