  • Patent number: 6096466
Abstract: A developer for replenishment for use in a developing system in which a latent image on a latent image holding member is developed with a developing unit containing a two-component developer comprising a toner and a carrier while replenishing the developer with a developer for replenishment, the developer for replenishment comprising a carrier and from 1 to 30 parts by weight of a toner per 1 part by weight of the carrier, and the developer for replenishment having an electrical resistance substantially equal to that of the carrier previously contained in the developing unit, but giving a larger charge quantity to the toner than the carrier previously contained in the developing unit does. Also disclosed is a developing method using the developer for replenishment.

  • Patent number: 5884129
Abstract: An electrostatic-image developer which comprises: (i) a toner comprising: (a) toner particles containing carbon black in an amount of from 6 to 8% by weight based on the weight of the toner particles and having a volume-average particle diameter of from 3 to 9 .mu.m; and (b) an external additive; and (ii) a resin-coated carrier having a volume resistivity of from 10.sup.7 to 10.sup.11 .OMEGA..multidot.cm in an electric field of 10.sup.3.8 V/cm and an average particle diameter of from 30 to 60 .mu.m. Also disclosed are a process for forming a black image and a process for forming a full-color image each using the electrostatic-image developer.

  • Patent number: 5693444
Abstract: An electrostatic-image developer which comprises a toner and a carrier comprising core particles coated with a coating resin, wherein the toner comprises toner particles having a volume-average particle diameter of from 3 to 9 .mu.m and having a specific particle diameter distribution, at least 20% of the total surface area of the toner particles is covered with (a) an external additive having an average particle diameter of from 20 nm to 100 nm, and at least 40% of the total surface area of the toner particles is covered with (b) an external additive having an average particle diameter of from 7 nm to 20 nm, and wherein the core particles of the carrier are magnetic particles formed from a composition comprising 100 parts by weight of a ferrite component represented by the following formula (3):(M.sub.y O).sub.100-x (Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3).sub.x (3)(wherein M is a metal atom selected from the group consisting of Li, Mg, Ca and Mn; x is from 45 to 95 mol %; and y is 1 or 2) and from 0.
