Patent number: 6255813Abstract: A magnetic sensor (31) comprises an insulator substrate (37) having first and second surfaces opposite to each other, a soft magnetic element having first and second ends opposite to each other and mounted on the first surface of the insulator substrate, and a conductor mounted on the second surface of the insulator substrate, and an output port coupled to the first and the second ends of the soft magnetic element for deriving an impedance of the soft magnetic element between the first and the second ends. The impedance changes in dependence upon a magnetic field strength applied to the soft magnetic element. In the magnetic sensor (31), the soft magnetic element is a soft magnetic wire (33). The conductor is a ground conductor (35) to be grounded. The magnetic sensor may further comprise a short-circuiting conductor (39) connecting the first end of the soft magnetic wire with the ground conductor while the output port is coupled to the short-circuiting conductor and the second end of the soft magnetic wire.Type: GrantFiled: January 18, 2000Date of Patent: July 3, 2001Assignees: Tokin CorporationInventors: Akihiro Isomura, Ken-Ichi Arai

Patent number: 5729405Abstract: A disk apparatus comprises a carriage rotatably arranged in the case, and a magnetic head supported on the carriage. A voice coil motor for rotating the carriage includes a yoke fixed to the case, a magnet fixed to the yoke, and a coil mounted on the carriage and facing the magnet. A carriage locking mechanism for locking the carriage in a stop position includes a locking magnet and a magnetic member fixed directly to the yoke and the carriage, respectively. The magnetic member is attracted by the magnetic force of the locking magnet to lock the carriage in the stop position, when the carriage is rotated to the stop position. An elastic member is fitted on the locking magnet so as to abut against the magnetic member to relieve the shock and to define a predetermined gap between the magnetic member and the locking magnet when the carriage is rotated to the stop position.Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1997Date of Patent: March 17, 1998Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Akihiro Isomura, Isao Morita

Patent number: 5566375Abstract: A hard disk drive comprises a voice coil motor for swinging a carriage about a support shaft, and a lock mechanism for locking the carriage in a desired position. The motor has a coil fixed to the carriage, and a motor magnet opposing to the coil and having an arcuate surface coaxial with the support shaft. The lock mechanism comprises a magnetic member attached to the carriage and movable in an arcuate path coaxial with the support shaft in accordance with the swing of the carriage, while opposing to the arcuate surface of the motor magnet, and a locking magnet provided near the arcuate path of the carriage, for attracting the magnetic member when the carriage is swung to the desired position. The arcuate surface of the motor magnet includes an opposing region which is opposed to the arcuate path of the magnetic member and a non-opposing region which is continuous to the opposing region. The motor magnet has a recess formed only in the non-opposing region.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1994Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Akihiro Isomura

Patent number: 5038240Abstract: An apparatus for driving a disk-type recording medium includes a base plate including a magnetic material, a spindle mechanism, formed on the base plate, for rotating the recording medium, and a controller for controlling the spindle mechanism. An insulating film is formed on the base plate, and an electric wiring pattern is formed on the insulating film. The spindle mechanism includes stator coils magnets, a rotor, a bearing, and a spindle shaft. The stator coils and the bearing are fixed on the base plate, the magnets are fixed on the rotor, the rotor is fixed on the spindle shaft, the spindle shaft is supported by the bearing, and the stator coils are connected to the writing pattern. Parts of the controller are mounted on the base plate and connected to the wiring pattern. With this arrangement, the entire apparatus can be made thin, mounting positional precision of the respective parts can be improved, workability is improved, and therefore a manufacturing cost can be reduced.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1989Date of Patent: August 6, 1991Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Akihiro Isomura
