Abstract: A maleated saturated hydrocarbon wax having a number-average molecular weight of 500 through 6000, a content of a maleic anhydride unit of 14 through 40% by weight and a melt viscosity of 10.sup.2 through 10.sup.6 centipoises at 140.degree. C. is disclosed. This maleated wax is self-emulsifiable and the emulsion thereof can be stored for a long period of time, even in a very dilute emulsion. This maleated wax is produced from the reaction of a saturated hydrocarbon wax with the specified amount of maleic anhydride, in the presence of an organic peroxide, at the specified temperature by adding the maleic anhydride and the organic peroxide to the molten saturated hydrocarbon wax at the specified rates.

Abstract: An epoxy-modified polyolefin wax, which consists of a low-molecular-weight polyolefin grafted, copolymerized and modified with an epoxy group-containing, ethylenically unsaturated compound and has a number average molecular weight of from 600 to 10,000 and an epoxy equivalent of from 200 to 100,000, is disclosed.This epoxy-modified polyolefin wax is very valuable as a modifier for improving brittleness or adhesion (adhesiveness) in various resins, especially thermosetting resins.
