  • Publication number: 20030200750
Abstract: A master cylinder includes a cylinder housing having a cylinder bore, a seal cup disposed inside the cylinder bore, and a piston slidably disposed in the cylinder bore in sliding contact with the seal cup and defining a pressure chamber in cooperation with the housing and the seal cup. The piston includes a connecting passage which fluidly connects the pressure chamber with an atmospheric pressure chamber when the piston is in a retracted position. The seal cup cuts off fluid communication between the pressure chamber and the atmospheric pressure chamber through the connecting passage when the piston moves in its axial direction by a prescribed distance from its retracted position. The connecting passage is a stepped hole having a first end portion with a small diameter which communicates with the pressure chamber and a second end portion with a large diameter which opens onto an outer peripheral surface of the piston.

  • Publication number: 20030178272
Abstract: With a brake hydraulic pressure generator in which the brake operating force is applied to a pressure adjusting valve through a stroke simulator and hydraulic pressure supplied from the hydraulic pressure source is adjusted to a value corresponding to the brake operating force by the pressure adjusting valve, at the relaxing of the brake operating force, the return stroke until the output hydraulic pressure of the pressure adjusting valve begins to drop is large. Thus a delay in the decrease of an output hydraulic pressure occurs. This worsens brake feeling. To solve this problem, the sliding resistance of the simulator piston is set to be greater than that of the input piston so that at the relaxing of the brake operating force, the input piston moves relative to the pressure adjusting valve before the simulator piston moves relative to the input piston. This quickens response of an output hydraulic pressure drop relative to the relaxing of the brake operating force.

  • Publication number: 20030168909
Abstract: It is proposed to improve the operating feeling of a vehicle brake hydraulic pressure generator in which the hydraulic pressure supplied from a hydraulic pressure source is adjusted to a value corresponding to the brake operating force by means of a pressure adjusting valve which changes its operating state according to displacement of an input piston or a simulator piston. A simulator chamber in the piston into which the simulator piston protrudes is connected to an atmospheric reservoir through an orifice to restrict the flow of brake fluid out of the simulator chamber while the brake is operated sharply, ther by delaying the stroke of a brake pedal.

  • Publication number: 20020000752
Abstract: A brake control device for a vehicle includes a master cylinder, a wheel cylinder, a brake pedal behavior simulator, a normally-open type electromagnetic valve, a normally-closed type electromagnetic valve, and a brake pressure control device. The brake pressure control device includes a pump, a reservoir, and two electromagnetic valves to increase and decrease wheel cylinder hydraulic pressure. When the brake pressure control device is normally operated, a hydraulic pressure in the wheel cylinder is controlled by the brake pressure control device. On the other hand, when the brake pressure control device malfunctions or is abnormally operating, the wheel cylinder hydraulic pressure is controlled by hydraulic pressure generated from the master cylinder. At least the normally-closed type electromagnetic valve is opened when the brake pedal is in the non-operational state.

  • Patent number: 6290310
Abstract: To apply hydraulic pressure to a wheel brake upon failure of a stroke simulator, a brake pressure control device for automotive vehicles is designed so that when a power pressure source is in the normal condition, fluid communication between the master cylinder and the wheel brake is interrupted and fluid communication between the master cylinder and the stroke simulator is established, thus causing the output hydraulic pressure of the power pressure source to be adjusted in response to a detection output of a master cylinder hydraulic pressure sensor, thereby applying the resulting hydraulic pressure to the wheel brake. In addition, the brake pressure control device is provided with a stroke sensor which detects a stroke of a brake pedal. When the stroke of the brake pedal exceeds a predetermined stroke, a simulator cut-off valve is closed to interrupt fluid communication between the master cylinder and the stroke simulator.

  • Patent number: 6217127
Abstract: A load transmitting elastic member is interposed between an input rod and a piston of a master cylinder or a piston of a pedal stroke simulator to which the operation force of a brake pedal is applied from the input rod. The set load of the load transmitting elastic member is lower than the predetermined load required for causing the piston to begin to slide and the maximum load of the load transmitting elastic member is higher than the predetermined load required for causing the piston to begin to slide. The stroke of the brake pedal thus begins through application of a small depression force applied to the brake pedal and so the operational feeling of the brake pedal is improved.
