  • Patent number: 8241080
Abstract: An outboard engine unit having a cover halved into two. An undercover is made of a resin and halved into a left resin half and a right resin half. A lower mount cover is made of a resin and halved into a left resin half and a right resin half. The resin halves are formed so that when they are mated together, a gap is defined at a connection therebetween on a rear face side of the outboard engine unit. An elastic rubber member is filled in the gap.

  • Patent number: 8142245
Abstract: An air intake passage system includes an external air intake port provided in a rear portion of a top cover and a passageway section projecting upwardly from the engine cover for directing taken-in external air to the engine. The top cover is provided over the engine cover with a gap therebetween such that the taken-in external air is allowed to flow into the passageway section and a water discharge section is provided between the engine cover and the top cover. Water, having entered together with external air, flows along the upper surface of the engine cover, bypasses the passageway section and is then discharged via the water discharge section.

  • Patent number: 7473148
Abstract: An outboard motor adapted to be mounted on a stern of a boat and having a propeller to propel the boat, a power source which produces rotational output, a drive unit including a vertical shaft which transmits the rotational output of the power source to the propeller through a gear mechanism, and an interlock unit which detachably interlocks the power source to the drive unit. The changeable power source includes one of an internal combustion engine, an electric motor and a combination of the engine and the motor. The interlock unit interlocks one of the engine, the motor and the combination of the engine and the motor to the drive unit as the power source for propelling the boat, thereby enabling to freely change its power source as desired in accordance with a user's current needs and purposes.

  • Patent number: 7381107
Abstract: In a hybrid outboard motor equipped with an internal combustion engine and electric motor as selective sources of power for driving the propeller and further provided with the first output shaft connected to the engine for transmitting its output to the propeller and the second output shaft connected to the motor for transmitting its output to the propeller, the first and second output shafts are disposed coaxially, so that the amount of space required for installing the shafts is smaller by the length of their coaxial portion relative to the prior art in which the shafts are simply connected in tandem. As a result, the size and weight of the outboard motors can be reduced, thereby enhancing its ease of operation and portability.

  • Patent number: 7331834
Abstract: An outboard motor is provided with a bar handle equipped with a throttle grip enabling push-pull operation and rotate operation by the boat operator, and one or the other of the engine and the motor is connected to the propeller in accordance with the push-pull operation of the throttle grip. Owing to this configuration, switching between the power sources can be performed using the throttle grip of the bar handle. In addition, the engine speed and motor speed are regulated in accordance with the rotating operation of the throttle grip, thereby avoiding degradation of operability and increase in outboard motor size.
