  • Patent number: 5793631
Abstract: A voice route-guidance system for vehicles which terminates its route-guidance when the vehicle arrives at the destination and even if the present position of the vehicle is measured with low accuracy. An approach judging unit judges that the vehicle approaches a point spaced apart from a destination by a predetermined distance. A guidance termination judging unit further judges whether or not there is a point in which the route-guidance should be carried out between the present vehicle position and the destination. From these judgments, the system judges that the vehicle approaches the point spaced apart from the destination by the predetermined distance and also that all the route-guidance has been terminated. Thus, a termination unit terminates the route-guidance.

  • Patent number: 5757289
Abstract: A vehicular navigation system includes a central control unit which determines when a present position deviates from a searched route along which guidance is being provided from a starting point to a destination and determines whether or not the detected deviating present position is on a guidable road prior to re-searching the route and providing guidance based upon the re-searched route. A guidable road is a road upon which the navigation system contains sufficient map information and guide information for the navigation system to search a route and provide guidance. Additionally, system determines whether the vehicle has traveled a predetermined distance after re-search of the route prior to providing travel guidance based upon the re-searched route. Otherwise travel guidance continues to be provided based upon the previously searched route. A driver, after making a short deviation, may thus return to the previous route without travel guidance being interrupted by a re-searched route.

  • Patent number: 5739772
Abstract: The present invention provides a navigation system for vehicles, in which advancing direction guidance information at a first guide branch point is displayed by partially overlapping it on advancing direction guidance information at a second guide branch point, and it is possible to recognize that the information at the uppermost layer has higher priority and also to find two advancing direction guidances at the same time. The advancing direction guidance information at a second guide branch point is displayed only when there are two or more guide branch points separated from each other at shorter distance than a predetermined distance, and the driver can easily recognize that the branch points requiring guidance are located adjacent to each other and can drive the vehicle at ease and with full confidence.

  • Patent number: 5729217
Abstract: A route guidance section compares the current position provided by a current position determination section and the route provided by a route calculation section for detecting an off-route condition. When the off-route condition is detected, a re-searching key as well as the route and current place is displayed on a display section. When the re-searching key is touched, a search is again made for a new route from the current position to the destination. Then, route guidance is again started in response to the re-searching result. When the re-searching key is not touched, the route and current place continue to be displayed while the vehicle carrying the apparatus travles off route, thereby efficiently preventing the apparatus from executing unnecessary re-searching when the driver drives the vehicle off route on purpose.

  • Patent number: 5638279
Abstract: A vehicle navigation system realizing a discrete display of the present position of a vehicle during a period from when the vehicle reaches a predetermined distance before an intersection until the vehicle passes the intersection. Especially, in a zone a short distance before the intersection, the present vehicle position mark is fixed at the center of the displayed intersection until the travelling direction of the vehicle is changed. Thereby, even when the accuracy of monitoring of the present position is relatively low, misindication, such that the present position is displayed as if the vehicle has passed straight through the intersection in spite of not having actually reached the intersection, is avoided.

Abstract: A route guidance section compares the current position provided by a current position determination section and the route provided by a route calculation section for detecting an off-route condition. When the off-route condition is detected, a researching key as well as the route and current place is displayed on a display section. When the researching key is touched, a search is again made for a new route from the current position to the destination. Then, route guidance is again started in response to the researching result. When the researching key is not touched, the route and current place continue to be displayed while the vehicle carrying the apparatus travles off route, thereby efficiently preventing the apparatus from executing unnecessary researching when the driver drives the vehicle off route on purpose.

  • Patent number: 5475599
Abstract: In a vehicle navigation system, when a voice control part, which is displayed on a screen, is switched off, a voice control part inhibits voice guidance from being output to a speaker. Now, if a current-location/guide selection key is operated, the voice control part creates voice guidance according to the operation of the selection key and outputs the voice guidance from the speaker. With this navigation system, aural route guidance is possible only at the driver's request.

  • Patent number: 5452212
Abstract: A navigation system for use in a vehicle including a route-calculating section and a route guide control section. The route-calculating section searches for an optimum route according to conditions set for the search. The guide control section provides displays necessary to guide the driver of the vehicle, and guides the driver by speech. This guide control has a landmark name-setting section which sets the names of landmarks according to information about the landmarks, the information retrieved from a guidance information storage section according to information about the present position from a present position-determining section. A display section displays a whole route map indicating the selected route according to instructions from the route guidance control section. At the same time, the names of the landmarks are presented on the display section.

  • Patent number: 5371497
Abstract: A navigation system for vehicles, capable of exactly and quickly showing guide information to a driver when two intersections to be negotiated are close to each other, is provided. A destination is input by an input part and a route to the destination is calculated from a present position of a vehicle, calculated by a present position determiner, by a route calculator included in a calculation section. The calculated route is stored in a route memory. A route guide controller included in the calculation section reads map information around the vehicle, stored in a guide information memory within a map information storage section and superimposes the map information with the present position of the vehicle, a traveling direction and the route stored in the route memory to display the superimposed information on a display.

  • Patent number: 5067082
Abstract: Navigation data (26) are generated by performing course exploration up to a destination using path data (26), which include information relating to intersections and road information, in response to input of the destination. Course guidance to the destination is provided while present-position pursuit (37) is performed. Course guidance at an end-point of a present-position road is outputted using guidance information for travel to a destination at every intersection obtained from the road network data (26) by course exploration. At an intersection, a road in a direction of travel is recognized by the present-position pursuit means (37), present position on this road is kept track of and the end-point intersection of the road is recognized.

  • Patent number: 4937752
Abstract: In a navigation system, during navigation between guidance intersections A and B, a next named intersection C is displayed along with the distance remaining until the named intersection B is reached. After the vehicle has entered the distance error correction range, illumination color of the display of the next named intersection C is changed into, for example, red. If a corresponding portion of the display screen is touched at the time of passage though the intersection, a distance error is corrected. The invention thus makes it possible to readily correct distance errors with accuracy. Even during navigation along a straight road, distance correction can be performed at specific intersections. The invention also makes it possible to track the present position with accuracy by increasing the frequency of distance error correction.
