Abstract: A card reader which makes it possible to read card data from a non-contact IC card, discharge a foreign substance inserted from a card insertion slit, sufficiently ensure the degree of freedom in design, and sufficiently prevent the size of the apparatus main body from becoming large. A coil-shaped circuit pattern is formed on an antenna substrate used as an antenna for radio communication with a non-contact IC card. A part located inside the coil-shaped circuit pattern is cut out to form an opening. Even if the antenna substrate is disposed below the card reader main body, therefore, a foreign substance such as a coin inserted from an insertion slit may be discharged from the opening of the antenna substrate.

A support structure for a magnetic head for swingably supporting a magnetic head includes a fixed member fixed to a fixed portion, a movable member rotatably supported by the fixed member and urged toward a fixed position, and support shafts protrusively provided at the front and back of the magnetic head, in which groove portions for removably supporting the support shafts are formed at corresponding portions of the fixed member and the movable member in one of them in a vertical direction and in the other in a horizontal direction.

An IC contact unit includes a movable support provided with an IC contact point capable of coming in contact with a terminal of an IC card and is characterized in that guide portions for guiding the movable support are provided in a unit main body, guide members to be inserted in the guide portions are provided at the movable support, a pawl member to be engaged with an and portion of the IC card is formed at the movable support, the pawl member is projected to a card transfer surface by an actuator, and the movable support is moved by transfer force of the IC card.
