Abstract: A hybrid video camera with a built-in hard drive and optical disk drive plus removable media read/write unit is disclosed. The video camera has a face detection function, which is used to split a video stream of a scene shot at the position of a frame containing no human face images, thereby realizing automatic scene-split dubbing without impairing the scene continuity. With this feature, it is possible, when watching a home video movie, to avoid sudden stop of playback of the scene otherwise occurring due to improper splitting of the scene at its run-on part during dubbing by letting the scene be dividedly recorded on a plurality of disks.

Abstract: A seek time is shortened even when AV streams and non-AV streams are read continuously and alternately. When no space is available when a non-AV stream is recorded to a non-AV stream area, the non-AV stream area is closed, a non-use area is then split from the AV stream area to generate a recorded AV stream area and an intermediate state area and the AV stream area is closed. The intermediate state area is split and a new MD area and a new AV stream area are generated.

Abstract: Provided is a recording/reproduction apparatus capable of securing a backup area for management information on a recording medium without affecting the capacity of a user data area. Before a hard disk drive or a disc medium (recording medium) is finalized, metadata is recorded in a metadata area and when the hard disk drive or the disc medium are finalized, a user data area portion corresponding to the volume of metadata required for the finalizing is set as a metadata mirror area and then the metadata recorded in the metadata area is copied to the metadata mirror area.

Abstract: In a recording apparatus for a file system conforming to UDF 2.6, performance is improved when a MetaData file (MD) representing management information and its MetaDataMirror file (MDM) are recorded. The MDM file is not recorded before finalization is executed and when finalizing, a copy of the latest MD file is recorded as the MDM file.
