    Abstract: Disclosed is a portable terminal device, which has a reduced thickness, while ensuring a strength with which a display unit can be excellently held. In the device (100), the flat-board-like display unit (200) provided with a display drive section (213) that drives a liquid crystal display section (211) is attached to a first case (110) with a metal rear plate (160) therebetween. The rear plate (160) is provided with a reinforcing section (180), which is formed by folding back one plate end portion, which has a predetermined width, a plurality of times into a roll-shape on the rear surface side of the rear plate (160). The reinforcing section (180) is disposed at a position that includes the horizontal projection area of the display drive section (213), and prevents stress from concentrating on the display drive section (213) by reinforcing the display drive section (213).

    Abstract: There is provided a liquid crystal display capable of decreasing the number of components and easily carrying out an assembly. When a liquid crystal body 13 is to be attached to an opening 12 of a housing 11, the liquid crystal body 13 is supported and attached to the housing 11 by means of a plate portion 16 provided in parallel with the opening 12 through a wall portion 15 on a back side 11a of the housing 11. In this case, a flexible board 14 drawn from an end face of the liquid crystal body 13 is pulled out of an insertion hole 17 provided on the wall portion 15. For this reason, it is not necessary to provide a holding member in the attachment of the liquid crystal body to the housing as in the conventional art. Therefore, it is possible to decrease the number of components and to reduce an attachment man-hour of the holding member.

    Abstract: A navigation switch apparatus with simple construction is capable of operating in eight directions including longitudinal, lateral and diagonal directions. The apparatus has a printed circuit board having four conductors provided thereon with small spaces between each conductor. Together the conductors are shaped like a doughnut. A cap-shaped body arranged opposite the printed circuit board is provided with short-circuiters for making contact with the respective four conductors when a navigation lever is operated in the eight directions. Each conductor includes two opposing comb-shaped conductive layers. The central portion of one conductive layer has a diametrically directed comparatively-coarse comb shape. Both of the end portions of the other conductive layer have a circumferentially directed comparatively-fine comb shape, and the cap-shaped body has a thin-walled portion on its outer periphery.
