  • Patent number: 4520864
Abstract: A compact, self-contained cooling-heating-humidifying-filtering apparatus has an endless band of water-absorbent, air-permeable material traveling in partial immersion in water contained in a receptacle within a conditioner housing. A fan produces a continuous airstream from an air inlet to an air outlet, both defined in the housing, through the endless band. A damper is provided in order to divide the air outlet into a cool air outlet and a warm air outlet. The damper is operated by a hand lever so as to selectively communicate the cool and warm air outlets with the air inlet. An electric heater is disposed at the warm air outlet or, preferably, on one of the opposite surfaces of the damper for heating the air flowing through the warm air outlet. This location of the heater serves to assure noiseless cooling operation and to permit the heater to heat effectively, despite its limited capacity, the air flowing through the warm air outlet.

  • Patent number: 4449733
Abstract: In a tractor-scraper combination having a single-axle two-wheel tractor and an earthmoving scraper articulately joined together, one or two hydraulic suspension jacks are operatively connected between the axle and main frame of the tractor for varying the distance therebetween in accordance with the loaded or empty state of the scraper. Connected between each suspension jack and a pump, a leveling valve normally communicates the pump with some other hydraulic system of the vehicle and, on actuation, selectively communicates the suspension jack with the pump and with a fluid drain. When the bowl of the scraper becomes loaded or unloaded, a pressure sensor connected to a bowl jack actuates a timer, causing same to allow energization of an elevation sensor connected between the axle and main frame of the tractor. The energized elevation sensor puts out a signal representative of the elevation of the tractor main frame above the axle.

  • Patent number: 4308930
Abstract: A muffler for a vehicle mounted on a hood of an engine compartment, comprising an outer cylindrical member having a plurality of openings formed in the lower side wall thereof, an inner cylindrical member mounted on the bottom wall of the outer cylindrical member, the inner cylindrical member being connected to an exhaust pipe and reduced in diameter at the upper side wall thereof, and an extension pipe connected to the upper end of the outer cylindrical member wherein the outer cylindrical member is mounted on the hood in such a manner that the approximately lower half thereof is positioned under the hood.

  • Patent number: 4241702
Abstract: A noise-proof and air-cooled enclosure system for an engine comprising a radiator compartment, a generally enclosed engine compartment separated from said radiator compartment by a partition wall, said radiator compartment being arranged sideways with respect to said engine compartment, and an ejector utilizing the flow of gases from an engine exhaust pipe for creating a relatively low pressure within an air outlet from said engine compartment to draw ambient cooling air through said radiator compartment into said engine compartment around said engine and out of said air outlet.

  • Patent number: 4216700
Abstract: An actuator device for actuating ejector of a scraper comprising a first actuator having a long stroke, a second actuator having a short stroke, said first and second actuators being connected and fixedly secured in series so that the piston rod of said second actuator can be brought into contact with the piston of said first actuator, and valve means which normally permits the communication between the delivery side of a hydraulic pump and a pressure chamber of said first actuator and which also permits the communication between the delivery side of said pump and the pressure chamber of said second actuator when the pressure within the pressure chamber of said first actuator has increased beyond a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 4071108
Abstract: An articulated vehicle has a pair of hydraulic steering cylinders for causing angular motion of a forward vehicle portion relative to its rearward portion under the control of a steering control valve which is actuated from a steering wheel via a linkage system. Arranged between the steering cylinders and the steering control valve are a pair of flow dividers which upon actuation of the steering cylinders operate to selectively deliver part of the hydraulic fluid drained therefrom to the opposed fluid chambers of a follow-up cylinder having its piston rod coupled to the linkage system. The follow-up cylinder when thus actuated causes the linkage system to return the steering control valve to neutral. In an alternate embodiment of the invention the flow dividers are replaced by hydraulic motors which on selective actuation drive respective pumps communicating with the fluid chambers of the follow-up cylinder.

  • Patent number: 4065143
Abstract: A hydropneumatic suspension system for a tractor-scraper unit or the like has a hydraulic cushioning jack connected between the vehicle body and a pivotal suspension arm supporting each wheel. The cushioning jack with an associated accumulator is selectively connected to pump pressure or drain via a height control valve for raising or lowering the vehicle body relative to the wheels. For actuation of the height control valve there is operatively connected between the valve and the suspension arm a dual cylinder mechanism comprising two unitized, axially aligned air cylinders actuated from a manual selector valve. When the manual selector valve is in neutral, all the chambers of the dual cylinder mechanism are opened to atmosphere so that the height control valve is prevented from accidental actuation as the vehicle travels over rough terrain.
