    Abstract: A carbonaceous refractory material is produced by adding an organic binder to a mixture containing a carbonaceous material comprising a carbonaceous raw material comprising calcined anthracite, calcined coke, artificial graphite or natural graphite or a mixture thereof at 50 to 85% as the principal raw material, alumina particle at 5 to 15%, metal silicon particle at 5 to 15%, and one or two or more of titanium carbide powder, titanium nitride powder and titanium carbonitride powder at 5 to 20% in total, kneading and molding the resulting mixture and baking the molded article under non-oxidizing atmosphere. By using the carbonaceous refractory material as the inner lining material for the side wall and bottom of blast furnace hearth, the consumption of the inner lining material due to the dissolution thereof in melted pig iron can be decreased, and simultaneously, the abrasion due to the flow of melted pig iron can be decreased, which works to prolong the life of the blast furnace.

    Abstract: An automatic steering device is presented for controlling the direction of travel of an asphalt finisher during a paving operation. The device is provided with a laser generator (18) which projects a laser beam of a slit shape on a series of objects along the roadside which is selected to served as a reference line (A). An image recording device (17), a CCD camera, is disposed on the vehicle member (2), which records the projected laser light illuminating the objects and outputs a generated image (Ba) to a master controller (22). The master controller (22) determines the current deviation of the vehicle member (2) from the reference line (A) by the changes in the position of the generated image (Ba), and operates the automatic control device so as to steer the vehicle member (2) in the correct direction to permit the asphalt finisher to follow the reference line (A).

    Abstract: The present invention is a measuring method for detecting penetrant metal intruded in refractories having a conductive cover at a first wall and a nonconductive surface at a second wall and for measuring their thickness. At least one sensor head is used including a metal sensor with a first and second conductive coil for measuring distance between the sensor head and a conductive substance and a distance sensor for measuring distance between the sensor head and the refractories. The sensor head is disposed at a plurality of fixed positions close to the second wall to face the refractories and an alternating current is applied to the first coil to generate an eddy current in the conductive substance which faces the metal sensor. An induced voltage induced in the second coil by at least the eddy current is detected and a first distance is obtained between the sensor head and the conductive substance based on the detected induced voltage.

    Abstract: Efficient paving operation requires that the levelling operation of asphalt be carried out accurately along a reference line which follows a given direction along a roadside. A simple and effective automatic control device for controlling the steering direction in conjunction with adjustments of the screed for an asphalt finisher (shortened to finisher) is presented. The control device automatically regulates the extension or retraction of the screeds on both sides of the finisher in reference to a visual display of the reference line following some objects along the roadside. The visual detection system of control is simple and economical and provides an accurate control over the direction of paving.
