  • Patent number: 5977710
Abstract: A patch antenna has: a driven patch fed with a high-frequency signal and radiates a high-frequency electromagnetic field from its one surface; a parasitic patch receives the high-frequency electromagnetic field from the driven patch at a first surface and reradiates the high-frequency electromagnetic field from a second surface; and a radome which protectively holds the driven patch and the parasitic patch inside of the radome; wherein the parasitic patch is held by the inner surface of the radome which contacts the second surface of the parasitic patch and by a holder which protrudes from the inner surface of the radome and covers a part of the first surface of the parasitic patch.

  • Patent number: 5472217
Abstract: The invention is directed to an arrangement for sealing a clearance between a cylinder head and a cylinder block of an engine with a metal gasket clamped therebetween. The metal gasket is formed of a metallic base plate which has a plurarity of openings and beads formed therearound. The base plate may include annular shims welded on the base plate around the openings and a resilient sealing member deposited on the base plate surrounding the openings. The gasket may be disposed in such a manner as to place tip ends of the beads toward the cylinder block which causes a smaller displacement relative to the beads in comparison with the cylinder head. The resilient sealing member may be arranged to have a section of different dimension between a portion located at a side facing the beads and other portion at the opposite side thereof, or between a portion located at a junction where two of the beads meet and other portion.

  • Patent number: 5281974
Abstract: In an antenna device comprising an antenna block which can electrically control a direction of a radio wave transmitted or received by the antenna device, a phase shift unit is connected to the antenna block to phase shift an external electric signal or an internal electric signal given to or from the antenna device. The phase shift unit has variable and discrete phase shifts switched from one to another in response to a control signal supplied from a controller and supplies a phase shifted external signal to the antenna block or a phase shifted internal signal to an external device. The antenna block comprises a plurality of antenna elements and a plurality of phase shifters which are connected to the antenna elements to send the phase shifted external signal to the respective antenna elements or to send the internal electric signal to the phase shift unit.

  • Patent number: 5159313
Abstract: An oil supply system for an internal combustion engine, having an oil supplementing pump and an oil level sensor arranged in an oil pan for initiating the operation of the oil supplementing pump. A temperature of the oil is detected every time the engine is stopped, and this value is stored. A drop in the temperature of the oil when the engine is started is detected from the stored value of the temperature obtained when the engine was stopped. When a drop of the engine temperature is larger than a predetermined value, an oil supplementing operation is carried out.

  • Patent number: 4881078
Abstract: In a tracking system for a stationary satellite, a phased array is used for an antenna mounted on an automobile. The phased array antenna has a sharp beam which is switched between two different directions in azimuth. The antenna beam is switched between the two directions periodically by control of phase constants in a feeding circuit of the antenna and comparison is made in strength between signals received before and after the beam switching to obtain an error signal as an azimuth error signal. Then, the antenna is mechanically moved in azimuth according to the azimuth error signal until the azimuth error signal becomes zero. In a case the antenna beam is also switched between two directions in elevation, the antenna beam is switched in elevation during an interval between successive two times of the beam switching operation in azimuth and detects a difference in strength of signals received before and after the switching in elevation to thereby produce the difference as an elevation error signal.

  • Patent number: 4344407
Abstract: A combustion chamber is formed between a cylinder head, which has a central recess and planar surfaces on each side of it, and a juxtaposed piston, which has a central recess and planar surfaces on each side of it. Inlet and outlet ports are formed in the head with the axes of the ports on one side of a phantom plane that includes the axis of the cylinder. The juxtaposed planar regions of the cylinder head and piston define a first squish area between those planar portions on the same side of the phantom plane as the axes of the ports, and a second squish area, which is smaller than the first, between those planar surfaces of the head and piston on the other side of the phantom plane. A spark plug is mounted in the head so that its igniting tip is on the other side of the phantom plane from the axes of the ports but is close to the axis of the cylinder bore and to the planar region in which the squish areas are formed.

  • Patent number: 4231341
Abstract: An exhaust gas flow control valve apparatus comprising a rotary valve shaft extending across the exhaust passage in the exhaust housing. The shaft has an end portion projecting from the exhaust housing. A bimetallic element is mounted on the end portion of the shaft. A hollow collar is sealingly fitted onto the end portion of the shaft. A compression spring is arranged at one end of the shaft, so as to urge the hollow collar against the wall of the exhaust housing, for preventing leakage of the exhaust gas.
