  • Patent number: 4359910
Abstract: In a shift mechanism for a change-speed gearing in a power transmission unit, a spring loaded movable element in the form of a piston is slidably disposed within a reverse shift head member to be pushed inwardly by engagement with a shift-and-select lever, and a stopper pin is integral with the movable element and movable between a first position in which the movable element is apart from the lever and a second position in which the movable element is engaged with the lever, the stopper pin being arranged to be located at its outer end adjacent to a stationary member to restrict unexpected forward movement of a reverse fork shaft in its first position and to be aligned with a recessed portion of the stationary member to permit the forward movement of the reverse fork shaft in its second position for establishment of a reverse gear train.

  • Patent number: 4345904
Abstract: There are provided means for pressing link plates constituting a chain drive assembly in the axial direction of pins, whereby a clearance between the link plates arranged adjacent to each other in the transverse direction of the chain assembly is eliminated, and in turn, a frictional resistance between the link plates is increased. Oscillation of the chain stringer is thus suppressed, and hence a noise due to such oscillation is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 4315564
Abstract: A synchro-mesh type gear transmission includes a clutch hub rigidly mounted on an output power shaft. The clutch hub is provided with axial slots in which springs are axially inserted. The springs urge a synchronizer ring against a conically tapered surface of a driven shift gear which is mounted on the output power shaft so as to be rotatable. Thus, the synchronizer ring exerts a frictional resistance against rotation of the driven shift gear. A cylindrical sleeve is rigidly inserted in each of the guide slots. Each spring is inserted in a respective cylindrical sleeve so as to be prevented from being deformed in the direction in which the synchronizer ring rotates. A guide rod may be inserted in the cylindrical coil spring disposed in the cylindrical sleeve as a further support against deformation.

  • Patent number: 4287791
Abstract: A power transmission unit for automotive vehicles includes a change-speed mechanism, a final drive gearing and a differential gear unit assembled within a casing, the change-speed mechanism having an input shaft drivingly connected to an engine by a friction clutch assembly, and the final drive gearing connected to an output shaft of the change-speed mechanism to drive the differential gear unit. The input shaft is in the form of a torsion bar to reduce torsional rigidity of the drive power train, and a friction member is provided to restrain twisting vibration of the input shaft.

  • Patent number: 4277984
Abstract: In a rack and pinion type steering system with an energy absorbing mechanism, errors in axial dimensions of the steering shaft and column tube often make it difficult to fix the two parts to each other at two predetermined axially spaced positions. Such difficulty is eliminated by providing an elongated slot of a predetermined axial length in the column tube to allow a holding member to extend radially through the slot irrespective of the dimensional errors to fixedly connect the column tube to the steering shaft. In addition, a support member which is mounted on the steering shaft for assembling a bearing thereon is constituted by a single structure to preclude disconnection or disintegration of component parts caused by the thrust acting thereon and provided with claw portions or caulking wall portions for holding the bearing securely in position.

  • Patent number: 4263823
Abstract: A vehicular transmission including an underdrive unit and an overdrive unit each having at least one planetary gear system including a sun gear, ring gear, planetary pinions and planetary carrier wherein an axial extension member integral with the output gear of the underdrive unit and an axial extension member integral with the input gear of the overdrive unit are axially engaged to counterbalance the thrusts of the planetary gear systems. The transmission also includes structures within the overdrive planetary gear system and between the overdrive planetary gear system and gear transmitting output of the overdrive unit to the vehicle wheels for counterbalancing their respective thrusts.

  • Patent number: 4261217
Abstract: A transmission has a drive gear shaft disposed coaxially with an input shaft which extends in parallel with an output shaft. Two pairs of meshing gears, one of which constituting a gear train of high speed gear ratio while the other constitutes a gear train of low speed gear ratio, are arranged for the torque transmission from the input shaft to the drive gear shaft. The drive gear shaft is connected to the output shaft through a plurality of meshing speed gear pairs such as first gear pair, second gear pair, third gear pair and fourth gear pair, as in the ordinary transmission. In operation, one of the gear trains of the high speed and low speed gear ratios is selectively engaged, so that each of the speed gears may be operated at either the high speed range or the low speed range.

  • Patent number: 4258586
Abstract: A vehicular transmission including an underdrive unit and an overdrive unit operatively interconnected by an intermediate shaft, each having at least one planetary gear system including a sun gear, a ring gear, planetary pinions and a planetary carrier wherein an extension member integral with the input gear of the overdrive unit axially extends around the periphery of the intermediate shaft and is operatively spline-coupled to the intermediate shaft. The transmission also includes bearings on the outer periphery of the extension member for supporting an output gear mounted for rotation axially between the underdrive and overdrive units; the output gear conveying transmission rotation to gears for driving the wheels of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4220072
Abstract: A power steering apparatus comprises a main valve member rotating in response to the action of a fluid pressure motor supplementing manual steering torque and a flap valve member rotating in response to the manual steering torque and mounted within the main valve member. The main valve member and the flap valve member are operable to control flow of fluid under pressure supplied into and discharged from the fluid pressure motor. A plunger member is slidably received in the flap valve member and is provided with an anti-vibration member. A passage communicating with a fluid supply port is provided for applying fluid under pressure to the plunger member to urge the anti-vibration member against the main valve member.
