  • Patent number: 4424696
Abstract: An indirect extrusion press including a press frame body of the Rahmen structure. The press frame body is formed of a press platen and a main cylinder frame, which are rigidly connected together. Movably disposed between the press platen and main cylinder frame is a container adapted to retain a billet therein. A die stem fixedly extends toward the container from the platen while a pressing stem slidably extends toward the container from the main cylinder frame. Hydraulic cylinders are provided with the platen to shift the container back and forth along the longitudinal center line of the press. Hydraulic coupling cylinders are also provided with a crosshead from which the pressing stem extends and the pistons of both cylinders are connected to their respective container holders. The relative position of the container and pressing stem is maintained constant during an extrusion stroke so that the container-shifting force is added to an extrusion force.

  • Patent number: 4230661
Abstract: An indirect extrusion process making use of an apparatus having a main ram and a container which are adapted to be driven independently of each other, the container being moved during the extrusion at a speed equal to or higher than that of the main ram, so as to produce the extrusion force, characterized in that the movement of the container relative to the main ram is prevented so that the power for moving the container may be added to the extrusion force, so as to effect extrusion without causing change in the relative position between the container and the billet during extrusion, and that the main ram and the container are connected at a desired position in accordance with the length of the billet, making use of the frictional force exerted between the container and said billet, such that extrusion may be effected with respect to container and the billet in connected state of operation.

  • Patent number: 4059896
Abstract: A process for converting aluminum scrap into finished articles by compaction, heating and extrusion. The process comprises the steps of compacting the aluminum scrap at ambient temperature into a billet having a density between 1.8 and 2.4 g/cm.sup.3, heating the compacted billet to a temperature between 350.degree. and 550.degree. C, compacting the heated billet into a dense mass having a density about 2.4 g/cm.sup.3 either in an extrusion container, while maintaining conditions under which the air pressure at the outer periphery of the billet is lower than that in the central portion of the billet, or externally of the extrusion container, and subsequently, after completion of the second compaction, consolidating the secondly compacted billet by extrusion through an extrusion die fitted to the container while maintaining the above mentioned conditions, whereby void-free and scab-free finished articles of good quality are efficiently produced with a small apparatus using little energy.
