    Abstract: An apparatus for reproducing signals from a disc, comprises a gear assembly including a ratchet gear with 8 gear teeth rotating along one direction and cam gear with 4 gear teeth integrally formed with the ratchet gear, a rotary member which is reciprocally movable while being engaged with a casing inserted in a housing and which pivots the ratchet gear by an angle corresponding to one tooth along one direction, and an engaging member having a shaft as a fulcrum, a pin as a point of action and an engaging segment as a point of reaction. The shaft is providing pivotal support of the engaging member at the housing. The pin is in contact with a bottom land or tooth crest of the cam gear. The engaging segment is engaged with a holding frame to hold the holding frame to the housing when the pin is in contact with the bottom land of the cam gear, and is not engaged with the holding frame when the pin is in contact with the tooth crest thereof.
