    Abstract: A thermal printer which includes a selectively energized thermal head that is located opposite to a platen and is capable of thermally transferring ink from an ink supply onto paper fed between the ink supply and the platen. A heater element is selectively operated, in response to a detector sensitive to the grade of paper, to heat the paper after it has had ink transferred to its surface and is fed out from between the head and the platen.
