  • Patent number: 5089353
Abstract: A multi-layer material with a layer (A) of a saponified product of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer having an ethylene content of 20 to 60 mol % and a degree of saponification of at least 90% and a layer (B) of a styrene-based polymer having mainly syndiotactic configuration, or a resin composition comprising 5 to 95 parts by weight of a saponified product of an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (A) having an ethylene content of 20 to 60 mol % and a degreee of saponification of at least 90% and 95 to 5 parts by weight of a styrene-based polymer (B) having mainly syndiotactic configuration has gas barrier properties and markedly improved heat resistance. In a molding comprising the resin composition or the multi-layer material, contents (food) can be stored for a long period of time at ambient temperature. Moreover, after retort sterilization, the container can be heated by boiling, or in a microwave oven or a grill oven (at 220 to 240.degree. C.

  • Patent number: 4985147
Abstract: A liquid separation membrane for pervaporation composed of a polymeric substance having in the main chain a glycosidic skeleton containing cationic groups and/or anionic groups at least some of which form a salt with counter anions and/or counter cations; and a method for pervaporation, which comprises separating a water-organic liquid mixture or an organic liquid-organic liquid mixture by pervaporation using a separation membrane, said membrane being composed of a polymeric substance having in the main chain a glycosidic skeleton containing cationic groups and/or anionic groups at least some of which form a salt with counter anions and/or counter cations and being dried so as to have a water content of not more than 25% by weight.

  • Patent number: 4919328
Abstract: An air conditioning system for an automotive vehicle includes a duct through which conditioned air is directed into a compartment for passengers. A control device is associated with the duct for operating in a first mode discharging the conditioned air in the form of concentrated currents toward the passengers, in a second mode discharging the conditioned air in the form of diffused currents toward the passengers, and in a third mode in which switching is performed between the first and second modes at variable time intervals. One of the first, second and third modes is selected according to sensed values of compartment temperature and insolation intensity.

  • Patent number: 4870258
Abstract: A booklet, such as a passbook is transferred to the position, in which a page turning device is provided, on a base, by a transfer mechanism comprising driving and follower rollers. During a page turning operation, the booklet is pressed from the rear side thereof against the page turning device by a pressing force which is varied in accordance with the rigidity of the paper in the booklet. The page turning device is turned with the booklet, pressed against the same, to transfer the booklet at a speed according to the turning condition of the uppermost paper in the booklet, whereby the page turning operation is carried out.

  • Patent number: 4748361
Abstract: An electric motor includes a housing, a rotor and a stator. The rotor includes a rotor shaft rotatably supported on the housing. The rotor includes a plurality of disk portions disposed on the rotor shaft coaxially therewith and spaced from each other axially of the rotor shaft. Each of the disk portions has a thickness gradually decreasing radially outwardly thereof. The stator includes a plurality of annular portions disposed on the housing coaxially with the rotor shaft and spaced from each other axially of the rotor shaft. Each of the annular portions has a thickness gradually decreasing radially inwardly thereof. The annular portions and the disk portions are loosely fitted with each other with a gap formed therebetween. Opposed side surfaces of the annular portion and disk portion are conical. Each of the annular portions has a coil disposed in each conical side surface thereof. Each of the disk portions has permanent magnets disposed at least in each conical side surface thereof.

  • Patent number: 4699640
Abstract: A clean room is adapted to provide a plurality of clean air zones with different degrees of cleanliness. Air is passed through high efficiency particulate air filters in the ceiling of the room and withdrawn through shutters in the floor of the room. The shutters are adjustable to maintain a pressure-balanced system. The room is divided by walls and partitions to define different zones which are filtered by different classes of filters depending on the degree of cleanliness required in each zone.
