  • Patent number: 6247902
Abstract: A mechanism for attenuating torsional vibration in a compressor is described. The compressor includes a swash plate secured to a drive shaft and pistons coupled to the swash plate. Compression of refrigerant gas by the pistons generates torsional vibrations of the drive shaft. The rear end of the drive shaft is coupled to a damper for attenuating torsional vibrations. The damper includes a frictional plate secured to the rear end of the drive shaft, a weight rotatably fitted about the drive shaft, and a coil spring. The coil spring elastically presses the weight against the frictional plate and elastically couples the weight with the drive shaft. When the drive shaft torsionally vibrates, the weight contacts the frictional plate and is vibrated about the axis of the drive shaft by the coil spring. As a result, energy of the torsional vibrations is consumed and the vibrations are attenuated. Further embodiments show similar dampers attached to the exterior of the compressor.

  • Patent number: 6092997
Abstract: A compressor having a rotating member, which includes a drive shaft and a swash plate. A piston compresses gas and torsionally vibrates the rotating member. A damper is coupled to the shaft to reduce torsional vibrations of the rotating member. The natural frequency of the damper is substantially equal to that of the rotating member. The damper includes a metal pin coupled to the shaft, a weight coupled to the rotating member, and a rubberlike body arranged between the shaft and the weight. The pin functions as a spring acting in the direction of the torsional vibrations and has a spring constant that remains substantially the same within the operating temperature range of the compressor. The weight is vibrated torsionally with the rotating member by the pin to offset the torsional vibrations of the rotating member. The natural frequency of the damper is determined mainly by the mass of the weight and the spring constant of the pin.

  • Patent number: 5983780
Abstract: A compressor includes front and rear cylinder blocks, a drive shaft rotatably supported by the cylinder blocks, a swash plate mounted on the drive shaft, a plurality of cylinder bores defined in the cylinder blocks and located around the drive shaft, and a plurality of pistons respectively disposed in the cylinder bores. The pistons reciprocate by converting rotation of the drive shaft with the swash plate. A plurality of compression chambers are defined in the cylinder bores for compressing the gas supplied to the cylinder bores in accordance with the reciprocating movement of the pistons. Each compression chamber has dead volume defined by a space having a predetermined volume when the associated piston is at top dead center in each cylinder bore. A reference capacity is defined by the capacity when the piston is at a bottom dead center of the cylinder bore that has the smallest dead volume.

  • Patent number: 5528976
Abstract: A compressor has a swash plate supported on a drive shaft for an integral rotation. The swash plate is coupled to a plurality of pistons reciprocally moveable in a cylinder block to compress gas therein. Reaction force of the compressed gas applied to the piston and causing axial load acting on the swash plate and the drive shaft is buffered by buffer structure. • Patent number: 5483820
Abstract: A method for zero correction in torque sensors, such as magnetostrictive torque sensor and strain gauge type torque sensor. Torque measurement is initiated when absolute values of torque signals are greater than a first set value, sampling measurement is carried out at predetermined intervals after the initiation. After absolute values of the measured torque signal values become lower than a second set value, an average value for a predetermined number of torque signal values whose absolute values are lower than a third set value is set as a new zero. The method permits proper measurement and correction of zero signals from torque sensors employed succesively at locations subject to impulse-like action of a torque load.

  • Patent number: 5412998
Abstract: A torque measuring system can detect the magnitude of a torque applied to a torque sensing shaft and output a torque signal with respect to the torque. A torque sensor of the system has a measurement mode for producing torque signals and a correction mode for correction of its detection characteristics. An external signal for selection of one of the two modes is supplied to the torque sensor by a characteristic check device. The correction mode enables the correction of the torque sensor characteristics to be effected accurately and in a short time period without requiring manual labor.

  • Patent number: 4946350
Abstract: A capacity control arrangement controlling the capacity of a variable capacity wobble plate type compressor of a car air-conditioner driven by an engine of the car employs an engine load sensor, a compressor discharge pressure sensor, a car speed sensor, a compressor crankcase chamber pressure sensor, a miscellaneous air-conditioning data sensor, and a central processing unit to calculate and adjust a duty ratio value at which a solenoid-operated capacity control valve of the compressor is electrically driven. The adjustment of the duty ratio is carried out in such a manner when the engine load exceeds a predetermined value, the solenoid-operated capacity control valve first takes a fully open position to establish the lowest compressor capacity for an adjusted short period of time, and subsequently, takes a reduced opening position to maintain the lowest compressor capacity for as long as the engine load exceeds the predetermined value.
