Patent number: 6555233Abstract: In a sputtering process of forming a transparent electrode film (13) on a color filter (14), the dielectric breakdown of a peripheral portion of the color pattern film (10) due to abnormal discharge is prevented. A metal mask (8) has a mask body (8b) provided with openings (8a) having a shape corresponding to that of the color pattern films (10) formed on a glass substrate (9) Stepped portions (8d) are formed by recessing brim portions (8c) of the openings (8a) facing the color filters (14). Gaps (11) are formed between the mask body (8b) and peripheral portions of the color pattern films (10) of the color filters (14). The mask body (8b) is provided on the stepped portions (8d) with conductive projections (12). The conductive projections (12) come into electrical contact with black shading strips (10b) formed in the peripheral portions of the color pattern films (10) of the color filters (14).Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2001Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Assignee: Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd.Inventors: Akira Shishido, Atsutoshi Yamada

Patent number: 6396203Abstract: A color shadow mask assembly includes a shadow mask spaced apart from an inner surface of a face panel by a predetermined gap and having a curved surface, and a rectangular frame for supporting and fixing the shadow mask. The shadow mask and the frame are integrally formed by welding to fix a side wall of the frame to a skirt of the face panel. The skirt alternately overlaps inner and outer surfaces of the side wall of the frame at opposite surfaces between the skirt of the shadow mask and the side wall of the frame.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1998Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Assignee: NEC CorporationInventors: Nobumitsu Aibara, Akira Shishido, Takashi Magoi, Tadayuki Nishimura

Patent number: 5977726Abstract: A CRT system is provided, preventing the resolution on a phosphor screen from degrading due to the characteristic or performance variation and/or deviation of an electron gun. The electron gun has cathodes for emitting R, G, and B electron beams. First and second focusing electrodes focus the electron beams onto a phosphor screen. A drive unit has a power supply for supplying first and second focusing voltages to the first and second focusing electrodes, respectively. The second focusing voltage is an ac voltage with a parabolic waveform. The first focusing voltage is a dc voltage generated by dividing the second focusing voltage with the use of a resistor. A difference between the first and second focusing voltages generates an electrostatic quadruple lens in a space between the first and second focusing electrodes.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 1997Date of Patent: November 2, 1999Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Akira Shishido

Patent number: 5896001Abstract: A black matrix color cathode-ray tube includes red, green, and blue luminescent patterns, wherein each of the red luminescent patterns has a wider area than each of the green and the blue luminescent patterns. The red, the green, and the blue luminescent patterns may be either of stripe or of dot shape. Preferably, the green and the blue luminescent patterns have a common area. More preferably, each green luminescent pattern has a wider area than each blue luminescent pattern. The cathode-ray tube displays one of red, green, and blue colors even when ones of the red, the green, and the blue luminescent patterns are selectively excited concurrently with others of the red, the green, and the blue luminescent patterns undesirably excited.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1997Date of Patent: April 20, 1999Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Akira Shishido

Patent number: 5719475Abstract: An electron gun having an improved circuitry for driving the electron gun, which includes a cathode ray tube accommodating at least a cathode, a control electrode, a first acceleration electrode, a convergence electrode comprising first and second grids sandwiching at least a quadrupole lens and a second acceleration electrode. The circuitry is provided with a voltage divider having first and second ends which are electrically connected between the control electrode and the first grid respectively. The voltage divider being electrically connected to at least a dc power supply to apply a bias between the first and second ends of the voltage divider so that the first and second ends of the voltage divider have first and second voltage levels which are different by the bias from each other. The voltage divider has a voltage dividing point between the first and second ends.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1996Date of Patent: February 17, 1998Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Akira Shishido

Patent number: 5682078Abstract: A field emission cold cathode structure has an insulation layer having two-dimensional arrays of cavities, with a gate electrode on the insulation layer and two-dimensional arrays of opening portions having a generally circular shape positioned over the cavities. Field emission cold cathodes within the cavities each has a cone-like shape with a pointed top. The tops of the field emission cold cathodes are off-center within the opening portions in horizontal directions toward a reference point positioned on the gate electrode, and the distances of the tops from centers of the opening portions are varied to increase in accordance with increase in distance of the field emission cold cathodes from the reference point. This causes deflections of electron beams emitted from the tops of the field emission cold cathodes toward a concentration point which is positioned on a line extending from the reference point in a vertical direction to a surface of the gate electrode.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1996Date of Patent: October 28, 1997Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Akira Shishido
